These types of no-starts are usually due to a bad camshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor. Either the sensor (or wiring) has failed or spacing between the sensor and the gear is out-of-spec and the sensor can’t properly detect the position markers on the gear.

 

Just to clarify, it’s not necessarily the timing itself but just the sensor on the crank or cam? Which is either a spacing, defected, or wiring issue with the sensors? Also, can an 8 of 12 misfire cause it to go out of time on these engines? Thank you for your reply though

 

The sensor is more likely the cause than the mechanical timing, unless the engine was recently apart. Misfires would be likely with any timing issues, either electrical or mechanical.

The O2 sensors should not cause a no-start. They should be replaced, but that is likely a separate problem. Hopefully the cats in the downpipes are not damaged.

 

Hi, could you please give us an update on what was the exact issue. My friend has an Aventador with exact problem and fault codes. Initially I was thinking the tracker disabled the ignition but after disabling it problem still persist. Managed to start the car few times but engine stops while idling, keeps running if under load even at slightly over 1000rev. Also strong smell of petrol when running, and had few times missfire earlier at idle seen rev counter oscillating. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
