Why does my tach go to 9000 RPM Redline?

In strada and sport it goes to 9k. In corsa it goes to 8500 which is what it should be for all of them. I do know it will shift in auto for strada and sport at 8800.

Seems odd a tune would only allow 9k in strada/sport not corsa also. I was assured because of CPO there is no tune. So I will be chatting with the dealer on Monday. I'll also follow back up on what happens.

Truly odd, please do tell us what you find out.

With the CPO process, they should’ve been able to detect a tune
I would be very pissed and lose confidence in the entire CPO process if it did turn out to have a tune despite him being assured it did not. That would have put me off right away as a buyer. It was mentioned the amount of crackles/pops initially sounded excessive, which is another hallmark sign of a tune. I hope there's another explanation, but I'm unaware of any other way to raise your redline like that. Looking forward to hearing what they say and what they're going to do about it. My guess is they'll request you get the latest Lambo software update.

I had a ton of errors on a drive today. Something is wrong. Keep in mind it was 32 degrees and I was driving through town. Stopped off at a restaurant and when I left. I got a: "Change driving style engine compartment hot" - error and then error lights flashing everywhere and a "Limit driving to 4K rpm" and "engine malfunction" - see service... you get the idea. I grabbed pics of what I could. Pulled over turned it off popped the engine compartment and it was normal temp as I said it was cold out. Waited ten minutes and started it and no errors and made it 40 miles home in strada/automatic. Now that I'm home I will drive it around in strada/corsa and see if it acts up.

Reaching out this morning to Lambo Newport Beach where I bought the car and Lamborghini Las Vegas where all my service work is done. Will update later today as I should hear something back. It will be interesting to see what they say about the 9K tach in strada/sport to say the least.

If it turns out there is an aftermarket tune, it will be interesting to hear the recourse and how this was missed during inspection. Makes you lose confidence in the entire CPO process. Are you going to seek some type of compensation? Maybe ask for another year of warranty coverage as you could say you wouldn't have bought the car if you knew it had a tune :)

Don't know how there can't be an aftermarket tune with the 9K tach situation. There simply is no other explanation. Lambo Vegas needs the car to check everything out and will come get it. They are hesitant to say anything without having the car first. I get it. Sort of like trying to get a Doctor to diagnose over the phone without seeing the patient.

However, I want to talk to Lambo Newport first before I send the car down and am waiting for that to happen. LV says it's a possibility the tune could have been missed when going through the files in Italy to approve for CPO. A reflash can't be done and the ECU would need replacing. That's all I have as of right now.

And yes, I was already thinking about asking for a warranty extension because of this. Good call.

Just curious, how long have you had your car before you noticed the 9k RPM thing?

While it can be an obvious thing to catch, I can also see many owners not noticing something like that for a while

Had the car for a week and it sat for several days waiting on a temp. registration snafu. I drive in corsa 100% of the time and noticed it when I was toggling menus in strada on startup the other day. I put 30k miles between a 580-2 and an EVO so I'm very familiar with Huracans.

Car goes to Vegas. Here is what Newport Beach said:

"I don’t have another performante to compare to with the redline but I can ask the techs and see if there is any technical documentation on that. As far as the tune goes, there isn’t a way the car would pass certification if it was tuned, reports go out to Lamborghini, and they check over ECU data for that reason.

It almost sounds like a sensor malfunction but yes, I would suggest getting it down to Vegas so they can check it out. You are always welcome to send it back here as well however I know that is quite the distance."

Gotcha. I guess they would have done it had you not stopped it. The car I was looking at already had the campaign done by the Lambo dealer so there was no opportunity to intervene.

Hopefully you'll have an answer soon. I'll be curious to hear about the findings/recourse offered.

Lambo Newport is insisting there is no way a tune can get past the factory for CPO. It's one of the exact things they look for. I'm inclined to believe that. I know about software and I'd assume they have software that compares the file they are sent to an existing stock one and highlights any changes. It's not like some guy is sitting there looking at that file line by line or table by table.

With that said, I'm still stumped about the 9K redline in strada/sport. I can't see someone making a mod for that in strada/sport only and leaving corsa at 8500 rpm. This is turning into a real head scratcher and I have to wait until Lambo Vegas comes and gets the car which hopefully is this week sometime.

All I have right now is the salesperson going back to previous owner who had the Gintani exhaust put on and double checking if there was a tune. Has to be with the 9K redline and the excessive pops and crackles. Lambo Vegas is supposed to let me know this week when they can schedule to get the car which means pickup most likely next week.

I have since taken the car out several times a day for a good drive through all of the drive modes since Sunday and have yet to get any errors like I had this weekend which I posted earlier in this thread. So that might be an anomaly or a sensor malfunction that could come back.

This is all just a royal PITA I wish I didn't have to deal with but it will get handled and the car is awesome. So in the end it will be worth it all. Updates as I get them.

Is it possible the factory did not examine the ECU at all? Do the local techs not do any checks/inspections on their end? I'm not familiar with the CPO process or what the checks and balances and/or quality control is like, but it makes you wonder if steps are ever skipped and how stringent the process is adhered to.

I'm surprised Lambo dealerships are not trusted/empowered to run their own electronic diagnostic checks as part of the certification process. Seems odd the factory would need to be so involved with pre-owned vehicles? I always assumed local Lambo dealerships handled the CPO process independently by following factory recommended guidelines and then reporting their findings to the factory who would give the final approval for CPO status, but I guess I'm out of touch with their process.

I've been told by at least two dealerships that all trade ins at the dealership (including non CPO) have the ECU & TCU data sent to Lambo HQ to confirm mileage discrepancies (mileage blockers are a real issue the past few years), tunes and launch count. Not sure if this was an oversight on their part, or possibly just a sensor failure but I look forward to learning the feedback from the dealership after they test it out. Good Luck!

They said something about sensor failure also. I don't see how a sensor failure would correlate with the tach showing 9K in strada/sport in auto and manual mode yet corsa is the normal 8,500 rpm. Will be interesting as you said.

They will be picking it up in the AM. I'll post a couple pics of it getting loaded. Realistically, they probably won't start on it until Monday. My perfect outcome would be remove the tune and put it all back to stock without the software update. Then give me two years additional warranty at no charge because of this. Now that's assuming there is a tune, but I really see no way there isn't because of the 9K tach.

i don't think the CPO process is very thorough, the first time i took one of my wheels off i noticed that the centerlock lock was unseated. my washer fluid is also either empty or a hose is broken, so who knows if they even checked the oil.

This was my first thought as well. I always assume shortcuts are taken or things are missed during the CPO process. I remember seeing the brake pad depth readings different by a couple mm's on a car I was looking at that had an independent inspection and was also CPO (dealer reading was 2mm greater). So were the ECU readings even sent to Lambo? And there seems to be a lack of consistency between dealers so I don't have a ton of faith in their competency. Although certainly some are better than others.

If there turns out to be a tune that Lambo missed, they need to compensate you, simple as that. I think you should say you wouldn't have been interested in the car had you known it was previously modified as future reliability may be in question. As this situation undermines the integrity of their CPO process, I think they will be quick to settle this and make things right for you so this matter doesn't escalate any further.

If they can return it to stock (new ECU?) and provide you with future assurance (i.e. a couple years extended warranty), this could end up being a win for you. I would shoot for the moon and see if you can get a 3-year service package and warranty and gradually settle for 1-2 years warranty if all else fails. This situation would really irk me as you paid a price for a vehicle that was misrepresented in a sense, as an unknown aftermarket tune devalues the car IMO. We'll see what they offer.

I guess worst case scenario is a reflash back to stock (if tuned) with the update. I'm told the update has an impact on the exhaust note in sport - Automatic only. It should have NO impact on Corsa. If that's true, I can live with that because I never use Sport and drive 99% of the time in Corsa. I only use Strada in my neighborhood and/or until the car is warmed up.

They are causing my main man @RoyalPink an unnecessary amount of stress and taking years off his life. In turn, this has also negatively affected me and Lamborghini should compensate me an STO at the very least.

My Tesla and $SPY calls are in the gutter so lord knows I can’t afford one any time soon

I mean you called it. It’s not a surprise given the visual evidence, but definitely lose a little bit of faith in their so called thorough CPO process.
What happens to the engine?
Thanks for the update. Do you have anything in writing? Why are you so confident
