Recently had the bumper off to replace the skeleton on my 2007 Spyder (That's another story better documented on here by others)
On reassembly I noticed the number plates were so dirty they resisted all efforts to clean, they'd effectively been smoked over the years
Knowing the were originally from an MK1 Audi TT I figured I'd get some cheap LED replacements and be done with.
Amazon to the rescue,
Not bad for ÂŁ17
however as I was about to reattach the cable in the wheel arch I discovered the connecting plug and wires had succumbed to 20 years of heat and movement and had separated on the body loom.
Following an unsuccessful search of the parts catalogue, I decided to chance my arm with the below VQ plug which looked as best I could tell a match.
You will notice it's a 3 pin plug that only carries 2 wires. Why Lamborghini didn't pick a more suitable 2 pin equivalent is anyone's guess but as I was hoping to only replace the half with the issue I opted to stick with the 3 pin.
This is what I bought
auto-connectors.co.uk
not bad at ÂŁ5.32
Turns out to be a good guess as it was a perfect fit. However looking at the bumper side of the connector it too had seen better days so I decided to replace the whole thing.
Pin lay out for anyone needing it was
Bumper side
Square Side Pin - Black (Negative)
Centre Pin 2 - Grey (Positive)
Body Side
Square Side Pin - Black (Negative)
Centre Pin 2 - Grey/Brown (Positive)
Having confirmed the loom itself was ok by applying power to the bumper side and getting working lights and reading with a meter that the Body side was delivering power I proceeded to change the connectors.
This is fiddly but doable and although I used a special tool (mines called an Aaron, cheers buddy) it can be done your self with suitable patience
End result working number/license plate lights.
Hope this is of use to someone
