2020. Haha. The model 3, a scaled down version of an existing car is almost 2 years behind schedule. Tesla is plaqued by production problems.

The roadster is a low production item that will not be given priority. The semi truck has huge potential but even that will not see the light of day for years.

Roadster- Tesla wants $50K deposit with $250K on the limited Prestige series. In other words, goal is to have consumers fund this project.

well i know there are a lot of negative assumptions on tesla. But i put my deposit down this morning. I'm sure there will be delays but show me a stock car that can do the 1/4 in 8 sec. This is going to kill the Porsche mission E.

Manually having to take the roof on and off is a huge downside for a Spyder guy like myself also.

Would agree that it certainly would not pass my sound and looks test but it isn’t a bad looking car.

I’d get bored quickly to lose all that, although it is kinda cool to see where technology is going.

Yes.....if you are just into speed, and not paying for gas then this thing makes everything else on the planet look plain silly. :)

Incredible numbers. It will be interesting to see where the production model goes.
Not sure I’m ready for electric even at that level of performance. This is considerably more expensive than its predecessor and will appeal to s limited number of buyers.

Once this car comes out I'm sure they'll be all over Silicon Valley. But I can't see car this displacing Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche etc.

I'm sure some of you have driven a Tesla S. In Ludicrous mode it is blindingly fast. However, after 2 or 3 runs I felt off balance. There's no engine rumble or exhaust to "balance out" the acceleration. Maybe it's psychological but I suspect the vestibular system is stimulated much more without having some auditory or other sensory input.

A lot of my younger relatives including my own kids talk about how EV and autonomous driving are the future. Yet when I got the Huracan they were all clambering to come over for a ride. And couldn't stop smiling afterwards :).

agreed totalty, it's not all about 0-60 times...its the sight, sound, and yes the performance too. Tesla's, while they got the EV acceleration are rather boring to look at & the SUV version is just plain ugly especially the front, but of course that's just my opinion. I think it's just a matter of time before the European auto makers come out with a product that will put Tesla chasing them...read: Terzo Millennio

Paper-racers will rejoice. True driving enthusiasts will shrug. While I've been a fan of Teslas since the roadster days, and while the numbers are impressive, it looses everything that makes a supercar... well... super.

Put it this way...

Lamborghini V12:

Tesla:

Catch my drift?

For day to day transport, a Tesla will soon be hard to beat. For a driving experience, there is no substitute for the originals. Lamborghini.

I think it's great...just more evolution in the automotive sector.

While at the dentist today, he mentioned that if he didn't have 4 kids he could have owned a Lambo. I didn't mention that I have one, instead I simply smiled and enjoyed the conversation about cars.

I can't count how many times I have been in various circles where folks talk about wanting to own a Lambo. I don't use it as an opportunity to let them know I have one, rather I just smile inside because I was there at one point in time and now one sits in the garage.

Cheers!

I once test drove the BMW i8 that has a tiny 3 cyl engine combined with eMotors. They simulate a bigger engine sound through the loudspeakers. The same could be used in the Tesla. But honestly, it sounds crap and unreal.

I wouldn't get to hyped up about this car. The way Tesla is going right now they'll be lucky to still be in business by 2020. I read an article about a hedge fund manager that shorted the stock. I guess the model 3 costs $48k to produce but they are starting it off at $35k. If that's true they are going to be in a lot of trouble. Apparently they had the same issue with their suv. A couple months after it came out raised the base price on it then a few months after that got rid of the base model all together and the end result was a car that was 30% higher cost than they initially claimed. Add in their current QC issues, and production issues it's not hard to see why they have a cash issue. Right now they are riding on hype but eventually that hype will run out and they better have the cash on hand to stay in business. Seems like Elon Must is promising a lot of stuff right now but not delivering on any of it.

So yea the car sounds great but I wouldn't put a deposit down on this car with the history they have of missing deadlines and the amount of cash they need.

I do think the future is EV but I get the sense that Tesla is holding out carrots to keep the consumer coming back for more...maybe try and come through on all those Tesla 3's that have deposits on first, then come to us with your latest and greatest dream car/truck...
Im not convinced....
