I went out for a cars and caffeine cruise this weekend and after a good long drive, someone noticed I had MELTED through the exhaust tip, the carbon dropped onto the bumper and melted a whole through the bumper:confused::confused: I really like the carbon fiber surrounds and tips, but man how could this of happened? I am not sure who made them as they were on the car???

Does anyone know if this is normal? or who makes these? the other side was super soft and seemed like the same was about to happen.

As stated in my original post, they were on the car when I got them and I do not know who made them. That was part of my question! heh

I have a set of OEM exhaust tips for sale, but they're dual tips from my 2009 LP560-4, I painted them with heat-resistant paint but they got scratched a little during removal. Easily touched up.

If you want something more permanent and resistant, you can always bring them to go get powder coated or ceramic coated.

First time I have seen CF tips, I guess now we know why. Sorry for your loss.

Just put back on originals and have them powder coded black.

Don't have the originals I bought the car with these aftermarket ones. I found some titanium ones on eBay for about $500 I wonder if I can get those and have them coated black?

Carbon fiber can be used for the exhaust. The exhaust nozzles from the space shuttle rocket boosters are carbon/carbon. Which is also used for carbon ceramic brakes. It's incredibly expensive to make because its made in a hydroclave, which is about the size of a building and are incredibly dangerous to operate.

There are composite systems out there that will take the heat, but the price to make a tip would be more than anyone would be willing to purchase. Lamborghini used it on the concept car and F1 uses it as well.

It also depends on the manufacturing process. If you know composites and know manufacturing, then there are solutions out there. It can be done, but the market size relative to what the development costs involved would not justify it. There are motorcycle exhausts that are made, but they spread out the costs over thousands of units, not <100

The tip is very hard (obviously) the area around the whole and the other side where it's beginning to fail its soft to the touch much like just a woven piece of thread
