Launch Mode in my 580-2 Went Crazy!

I wanted to use my Dragy to measure my 0-60 time. I have race exhaust and did a ECU tune. The car violently broke loose and nearly went sideways. I had to let off to regain control. Tried a second time and the same thing. What heck am I doing wrong? I put it in corsa, turned off the ESC held down the brake and pushed the pedal to the floor. The rpms rose to almost 5K and I released the brake. Insane, scared the crap out of me.

I was on pretty rough asphalt so I was surprised it broke loose that much. The car went almost sideways to the right then the left as I tried to control it, but I had to let off before I even got out of 1st gear.

Yes I have stock tires. As far as the ESC being off, I thought it had to be turned off to activate launch mode? Can you do a launch with it left on?

I’ve got a 580-2. Haven’t tried Launch Control yet. So fast without it haven’t felt the need. However, after reading this I’m going to need to find a save road somewhere with wide shoulders so I can give this a go and report back. I’ve got security cameras in the car, so the attempt will be videoed as well.

I was lucky that I picked a wide street with no parked cars. It scared the crap out of me.

I'm lucky my past cars are cam and head vipers lol. I never use launch control though. I think it takes off without it just fine. For RWD this car is so civilized. sticky tires, corsa and redline shifts should have you in 10s.

I will have to do some experimenting with launching my car. It all started because I wanted to see what race exhaust and an ECU tune would do to my 0-60. I definitely feel more torque low end and more pull high end. Huge difference.

I as wondering about that, I’ll see if that being off makes a difference.

5k seems too high. I'd just experiment without LC. Maybe 2500 to 3500. 3.3 seconds posted above seems slow. I should go do a run at the strip and report back. Still havent tested the stock 580. I can tell its plenty faster than the stock 645hp viper and for me, I launch really well but never use LC and never dumping the clutch around 5k. 5k on proper tires MAY be ok but isnt surprising it spins when compared to a 5k launch for AWD. I agree with the above post on the 720s and pista as they are very dialed in from what I hear using LC.

My 16 SRT 5500lb Jeep grand Cherokee with NA 475hp does 4.3 seconds 0 to 60, my X5m is good for 3.7 with 567hp so I think there isnt a ton of data on the 580s. It should run 3 flat easy imo unless I'm drastically missing something

I think the ECU tune could have something to do with it. It might have altered some things. Like the rpms going to almost 5K, that seemed excessive.

I don't even floor mine from a stop, and I get an insane amount of wheel spin with 60-90% throttle. (Even when tires are super warm). I still have the stock P-zeros. Going to be swapping the rears to P4S as they are almost worn down, so we'll see after that. I haven't launched the car for fear of loosing control, and likely won't ever. If I had any of the other AWD models, I'd feel a lot more comfortable. I gotta say though, that feeling of when the wheels break loose (in a safe setting) can be exhilarating.

Not to rub it in or anything.... my Mclaren 570s like all Mclaren's, is 2wd and it launches perfect every time! 100% stock car with stock tires and recorded a Vbox 0-60 time of 2.7 seconds! No spinning of the tires or anything, even with traction control turned all the way off. They have launch control dialed in perfectly! Lambo needs to take notes from Mclaren on how to launch better so the wheels don't spin as much on the 580s. The launch on the 610 is super good! Barely any wheel spin and super fast. But on the 580 it just has way too much spin. But maybe that's what lambo was going for on the 580? More wheel spin on purpose? Im not sure!
