Default Gearbox oil filter, where is it and who's changed it?

Came across mention of the gbox oil filter when I was looking at what was coming up in my next service. It's not something I've seen mentioned here, so was wondering if anyone had any useful info on it like where it's located on the gbox and what's involved in changing it?

On the front of the gearbox. 2 little nuts and it pulls out. It's not really a filter, it's more of a screen. You don't ever replace it. It's a good idea to pull it out and check to see if the screen caught anything. Make sure you put it back the right way around or you'll be changing transmissions soon after.

Thanks Stimpy, I guess the oil will run out so it is part of the oil change procedure?

Yes. You can take it out and quickly stick your finger in there to reduce oil loss, but you will still lose some, so better to do it during a fluid change.
