Default Your favorite credit card as a business owner?

Saw people talking about credit cards that earn the most in another post and realized that we prob have a lot of business owners here. Wanted to start a discussion on hacking these cards to get the most out of them so we can share our hacks.

Has anyone found anything better than the Amex gold for business in terms of points? I have 'a few' of them, both under the new reward system and old. This year I think I racked up about 4M miles but I'm capping out on multiplied earnings about half way through the year.

What are you guys doing to maximize the value in your credit card spends?

Amex miles have been pretty great. I know I can get more cash back with other cards, but I like not having to pay for personal travel, even though I know I'd "pay" less if I took the cash back option. Make sense? I have been considering making a change here, though, so I'd love to hear what others are doing.

I also have a wells fargo card that gives me a 50% relationship bonus on points. There's no annual fee and we use it for everyday charges (gas, groceries, etc.). It adds up nicely for random things that I want to buy.

I get payment terms with my vendors. Many of them will accept Amex for payment too. So, we have them run the Amex when the invoice is due. If staff is doing their jobs correctly, everything should be timed in a way that we don't have to actually pay for anything for quite some time.

So, order on day 1, invoice due day 31 (on a net 30 account). We run the Amex and Amex bill doesn't arrive until day 61; due on day 91. I made up the numbers for the example, but we make net 30 into net 90 easily. And some accounts have even more favourable payment terms, so sometimes we're not paying out cash for 6 months!

This is what we do. It's a great cash flow strategy, but if a customer wants to pay their bill with me this way I don't let them. It may be 45-60 days old, then you take a 3%+ hit to get paid. Not so good the other way around.

We fly on United so we use the Chase United Mileage Plus cards to earn miles on the business purchases. If you do use United though the best bang for the buck as far as mile per $ is the Chase Sapphire Reserve - it gives 3 miles per $.

I have AMEX PLUM card. Nice kickback if you buy big with it.
