To all you guys I know there are other threads out there regarding clutch replacement on the Gallardo.
I can highly recommend Sean @ Hi Tech Exotics on his very well manufactured Kevlar clutch assembly.
The clutch replacement took about 7 days from time of order and shipped to Australia straight away.
the replacement was done in about 14 to 16 hrs all up.
The exhaust clamps giving us the most trouble as I have a UK delivered car and all clamps were corroded.
The studs had to be re drilled and new ones were put in.
The Kevlar clutch is very light and great engagement with all gears.
:wave::
:)
Thanks to Sean @ Hi Tech Exotics

regards
Shalin

What is the life span of a kevlar clutch? By this I mean is it for example twice as tough? And whats the difference in toughness between a kevlar and sintered clutch? Anyone know? I get the feeling there arnt enough gallardos out there with high enough mileages to get an acurate answer. I was told between 3 and 4 times life for a sintered clutch, how the hell would they know. No evidence. I am writing this post after several beers so hope it makes sense.

I also have Hi Tech Exotic's kevlar in my Gallardo. My original only lasted 8k.I have put about 15,000 miles on my kevlar which is twice as long as my stock and I still have about 60-65% left.It looks like it should last 4-5 times longer than my stock eventhough Hi Tech Exotic claims only 2-3 times longer.

From what I hear from existing customers the kevlar will last at least 300% more than OEM...

Exactly what I was thinking as I typed it...

I just finished putting a Hi Tech clutch in a manual 04 gallardo about 3 hours ago. I haven't driven it yet but Sean was more than helpful and the clutch showed up 2 days later from clear across the country. I can definitely tell a difference in pedal pressure which will probably be helpful for the customer who owns the vehicle since he has some issues with the seating position in the vehicle. I'll let you know tomorrow how it drives but from all the feed back on the site it seems everyone is more than happy with these clutches.

Thanks again Sean.

Hi All,
I have ordered a set of Kevlar Gallardo clutch c/w compatible LP560 T/O bearing from Hi Tech Exotic and expect to deliver to me in Singapore by sometime End January 2011. Can wait to receive and fix-up my Gallardo as she has been sitting in the garage for 3 weeks. This time not only given her new clutch, I will dress her up with LP560 bumper and carbon fiber SL wing from RSC Tuning... Hope she will be happy of it...

I have a bunch of nice "speed clamps" left over from my exhaust that I can send to people if you guys want. instead of being 2 "C" sections it's a solid O that you tighten with a screw.

Hi GallardoM5,

We don't use cheap Kevlar material and that's why we don't have the problems that you mentioned. We use a very high quality Kevlar material which is used in aerospace industry.

We had a customer who owned an exotic car rental company and he needed a tougher and stronger clutch than OEM that can last longer. I told him about our kevlar clutch. He was hesitant because he used to have a kevlar clutch in his Acura NSX and it used to slip. I told him that ours does not slip because we don't just upgrade the disc, we upgrade the whole clutch. He bought the clutch and it never slipped. He was very satisfied. I think he is one the members here. I'll see if he can post here.

Thanks
Sean

So my burn-out launches are no good? DARN! ;)

After having a clutch slip the first thing you want to see with the new one is it holding strong under 100% MAXIMUM power ;)

Yes, I believe that is the "Valentino Balboni clutch break-in procedure" you are describing. A bit less delicate, one might say...

It is also sometimes mistaken for the TurboMike clutch break-in procedure, too...

I finally got my Murci back this weekend.I changed my clutch with Hi Tech Exotic Kevlar clutch.I've put about 50 miles on it.I'm still breaking it in so no hard launches yet.:(

The clutch is very smooth.Shifting is nice and crisp.I'll keep everyone posted after I'm done breaking it in.

I wanted to thank Sean from Hi Tech Exotic for all his help.He was very easy to deal with.He would even call me after I got the clutch to see if I have any questions. That's customer service.
Kevin, thank you for the kind words. Keep us posted after the break in period.

Finally got mine done. Now 750 miles onto it.... really can't wait for the 200 or 400 or 500 miles break in. Actual city driving of 150 miles not >3000rpm, another 50 miles >4000rpm of multiple shifting at low gear... after this I bring it to freeway for another 50 miles not >5000rpm. Ha! Ha! From here onward and all the way, I bring her up to 170mph. Faster smoother shifting...... Thanks to Hi Tech Exotic, especially Sean.

I finally put about 500 miles on my new Kevlar clutch.I'm done breaking it in.:)
I've done couple of hard launches and it grabs nicely. It feels it shifts faster at higher rpm than before. At lower rpm,the clutch is very smooth and crisp.I really like this clutch.

Braco, how are you doing with your clutch? Are you done breaking it in?
Hi Kelvin,
Had clocked mine into 1500 miles. +1 quicker/smoother shifting. During break in period, tried various PIS (clutch management setting) & finaly settled at PIS 5.2 found most suitable for my G. I do a snap at 3000 miles to check clutch. Enjoy it man.

Great thread. I am currently investigating the use of a new clutch in my recently acquired Superleggera E-gear.

I use my cars very aggressively- typically using them for anywhere between 12-15 track days a year.

I am wondering if this Kevlar clutch is good for beyond street driving as I need it to last the track days and not get me stranded up at the race track. If not then what semi race clutch is suitable for a Gallardo E-gear?

I have not got a problem with slightly harsh changes though I need progressiveness to ensure I can at least park the car without hitting something- I had been using AP Racing full race clutches in my manual Porsche GT3RS and the abrupt catching is not an issue for me but parking was a killer but at least with a manual I could stall the car and it would still glide to position. This would not be an option on an E-Gear.

Any feedback from heavily tracked E-Gear cars with the various clutches?
