Does anyone have any experience with K40's Calibre radar and laser protection system in a Gallardo or any other car for that matter? Thanks.

Yes, I have had several of the calibre units installed in cars I had prior to my Gallardo. I did not have the Laser Diffusors though, so I can't comment on their effectiveness.

When the Calibre is installed properly it's really steathly and a pretty good radar with few false alarms. It's very classy. I did have a problem with a defective k40 and the bluetooth sensors not syncing to the brain. That required another trip for the component to be replaced.

Some things to think about before you make your decision:

No matter how good your radar is when your on a back road you can still get nailed and K40 DID NOT pay my ticket when I got nailed doubling the speed limit like they advertise.

I do not know if the range is as good on the k40 since the sensors are down so low. I just use a hardwired V1 under my mirror in the Gallardo. It seems like the V1 has better range being higher in the car. Except it looks like a piece of junk and has too many false alarms. It is only really good on the highway.

There really isn't much research out there on the K40, which is pretty frustrating. I hope I helped in some way.

With radar detectors being so common, police always have the radar turned off until you are right up close to them. Then they turn it on and theres nothing you can do. Obviously if theres no signal being sent, the radar detector isn't going to go off. I was pretty frustrated to learn this after I bought my radar detector.

are theese prudocts good as they say ??:confused:

photo blocker
I've seen two different reviews on TV of those products. They tried the sprays, a plastic thing that you put over the plate, and a few other things like that.
None of them worked what so ever. You could clearly see the plate in every trial. The spray was cheap, so I guess there isn't much to lose. But I wouldn't waste my time. There was really no benefit to any of the products.

yes, good info. Sounds pretty inconclusive as the whether to pull the trigger on one. I use a V1 too, and I am very happy with it. If you think it looks like a piece of junk hard wired in, try sticking it to your windshield with the cord hanging down. It's down right embarrassing.

As long as it doesn't bother you, that's all that matters! It's not that difficult to hardwire. I just ran the extra wire they give you from the mirror to the inner edge of the headliner, then down the side of the trim to the fuse box. From there you wire it to one of the extra fuses.

I would NEVER wire it the way V1 suggests, straight to the ignition!

I have my radar up right under my mirror and positioned pretty well. I just ordered a new mount that actually hooks it onto the mirror but haven't had the chance to play with it.

Also, I just purchased that photoblocker spray that allegedly defeats the light cameras at intersections. It's pretty invisible to the naked eye and they claim it will make the plate impossible to read by reflecting the flash. I'm skeptical, but it was cheap and any way I can fight off big brother!

One of my best American friends who works at L.A.P.D. just sent me an email..

Yes...It does work. It creates a mirrored affect when the bright lights flash. The only problem is it is triggered with bright light, so at times when the sun or car lights hit it at an angle you can see it. If the police see it they can issue a citation for it and possibly impound the license plate for "defacing" it.

You might want to consider other option for laser jamming. K-40's are not the best available. Check out Laser Interceptors of Laser Park Pro's. There are some of the best available on the market.

Have had K40 on my porsche for 2-3 years and was never really happy w/ it. Against my better judgement tried getting a newer model k40 for the G. It had all sorts of problem syncing up. After 5th trip to the dealer and multiple replaced k40 parts , the k40 was removed and a Passport 9500ci (MUUUUUUCH HAPPIER).

To me worst part about the k40 is it's lack of configurability. Not to mention the jury is still out there on weather or not the Laser jammers actually work. I can tell you that the Passport picks up a lot more "laser" signals than the k40 in my porsche does.

Honestly, get the passport. Gps enabled red light camera warning... plus you can set it up to always show a digital read out of your speed. Very usefull for us 21st century guys.

If it were my money i would get the 9500ci hands down. I have even considered pulling the k40 out of the porsche and replacing it w/ a 9500ci. I absolutely love the 9500ci, the only I would change if i could is that it only has a front radar detection module (not a seperate one for front and rear). It does have front and rear laser though.

Check out PhotoStopper also. It is just as good, and cost s less. See here. These guys are huge, have been around forever, and make a ton of anti-radar stuff like sprays and license plate covers.

ONTRACK Automotive - Manufacturer of Anti Radar & Anti Laser Products.

I hear good things about Escort Passport setups, and a lot of local guys use them along with the covers or sprays.

K-40 built in

I've got the K-40 front & rear built into a 07 G Spyder. Works excellent, looks great & very pleased. Talks to you, or you can switch to a 'tone' alert to tell you if the radar is front or rear. Two small blue lights in the dash also light up telling you if its front or rear.

I don't have any experience with the k40 but I have used the Passport SRX and the newer 9500ci units. they work impressively well! I have the 9500ci installed in my 08 Gallardo Superleggera and its fantastic to drive by the highway patrol while they stare at there useless "guns" with confused looks on their faces. Make sure you go into the program menu to activate the laser shifters. Very cool stuff and said to be 94% effective.

I am afraid if I drove by a cop trying to hit me with a gun that it would just piss him off if it didn't register and he would have to know that I had a blocker or something. The car alone suggest suspicion. They could probably cite me for my loud exhaust alone.

on the 9500ci tap the mute button twice to disable the laser shifting while beeing tagged. The next time he tries it , it will go off. You should check your state laws regarding this. In IL you cannot be stopped for suspicion of violating this law. But you can be stopped for other things then busted for it.

I checked out all the systems thoroughly when I got my Gallardo. The K40 system tends to be sold to people with lots of cash, who don't really drive that fast or do much research. In most of the independant tests, it is a 2nd rate radar detector.

Either the top Bel or top Escort radar detectors will perform much better than the K40. However, for laser diffusion you need an entirely separate system--the Laser Blinder known as an M45

(link is one example of where to find this)

I have the earlier M40 , and have been through over 2 dozen laser traps in the last 2 years. I have no tickets :)

Well I have to tell you how very wrong you are but ANY remopte radar like the K40 all cost around the same. K40 has always targeted the luxury car driver, so what ! and THOSE so called independent test, tell me this how independent can they be if they are selling product ? In most of the independant tests, it is a 2nd rate radar detector.

Listen for future referrence dont do your research on websites that sell a specific radar, especially the very radar they rank the best. It's a sales tatic that obviously you fell for. Good no tickets... What state do you drive in?
