VIDEO: Proper LP Oil Change Instructions – Seven Drain Points.

11895 Views 44 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  Ripper
After a long wait, I've finally finished editing and uploading the video showing
the proper oil change process for the LP Gallardo.

Plot Twist: In a nice bit of foreshadowing, the thumbnail for the video gives
you a nice glimpse of the DEI Reflect-A-Gold heat "wrap" I've put on the
air induction system to get rid of heatsoak-- the topic of an upcoming video!

Anyway: Don't let the seven drain plugs scare you. It's actually a very easy
oil change – only takes about an hour and a half if you have the right tools.

Speaking of which:

Gallardo 5.2L: ~9L Required Per Change.
-Motor Oil – OEM (VW 504/507 Spec): Castrol Edge Professional LL03
-Motor Oil – High Performance: Motul 300V 5w-30
-Oil Filter – OEM: VW/Audi Oil Filter #079198405E
-Pre-Oil Change Treatment: Seafoam SF-16 Motor Treatment

Non-Standard Required Tools:
-LP 5.2L Oil Filter Removal: Tekton 1-1/4" Socket
-Fluid Draining (All Models): XZN/Triple Square Metric Bit Set

Let me know if you have any questions!

PS- I am actually thinner than in the video. The seatbelt makes me look like I
have a gut. Then again, who cares, I'm in a Lamborghini.

What do you guys think about syphoning the oil out? I see the Mercedes dealerships do this all the time.

Hi hail.repair,

congratulations on the purchase of your car:)

As the lambo runs a dry sump engine, siphoning will only drain the oil tank and NOT the engine crankcase.

You need to remove drain plugs to get as much old oil out of the crankcase.

cheers,
john
Very nice. How much $ do you save by doing it yourself?

From what I've read ( please correct if needed by all means ) :
DEALER - $500
DIY - $250

I changed mine the other day and it was quite easy!

Oil Filter $60 (eBay)
Mobil1 Full Syn. 5w30 8qt. $60 (Autozone)
Anyone ever get the crush washers identified?
This oil filter is under $15 and it looks good quality (OEM for AUDI)

Audi S5 S6 S8 Q7 A6 A8 QUATTRO 4.2L V8 Oil Filter Kit MAHLE OEM Made in Austria | eBay

This filter is made in Austria (by MAHLE). The Lamborghini filters I've seen are also made in Austria. I bet it is the same filter.

Having said that, I don't see how DIY oil change will cost more than $100.

Thank you for the video. It really helps those of us that don't like the dealer touching our cars any more than they need to.

As per usual, the sloppy dealer that did the oil change last time completely stripped one of the bolts using their power tools. I wasted a ton of time trying to get the bolt out. Thank goodness I have a lift and wasn't crammed underneath.

Anyways, I found it pretty hard finding the right part numbers to replace the bolt. The diagrams aren't actually all that clear and most of them have nothing about the bolts on the water cooler. A search of the forum didn't help either. But I finally figured it all out and ended up replacing all the bolts and washers that looked like they had any wear on them. I figured I would leave the part numbers here for anyone doing their own oil change and needing to replace bolts/washers.

2 bolts - Oil Sump and Cooler Radiator Plug - each get's N0138157 washer and a 036103193 bolt
1 bolt - The small plugs on timing chain cover propeller shaft (between plastic covers) - N0138063 ring and a N91119401 bolt.
1 bolt - The big seal plug gets - N0138326 washer and N0160293 bolt
1 bolt - The small plug next to big seal plug gets N0138115 washer and a N0160243 bolt
1 bolt - The small plug on side of water cooler gets N0138115 and a N0160243 bolt
1 bolt - The standard hex bolt gets 1 N0138493 washer and its a N0297014 bolt

I did my best to describe which bolts I am referring to. You can order all these for pocket change at any Audi/Volkswagen dealership.

Hope it helps someone!

@timelinex is this for pre-LP or LP?
Awesome, thanks... Where did you get the info from? Seems like every video and or writeup I find has different part numbers and quantities. So frustrating!

Seven drain points for the LP is correct. Any dealer or reputable independent shop will confirm this.
this is so much work.. lol.. I finally made my first oil change!
if you think it’s connected to oil pan you can always open the 8th point you think after drawing oil from 7 points and see if anything comes out.

mad far as washers goes I actually measured them with calipers ( inside diameter and outside diameter) then just ordered them from eBay in bulk snd have been using for last 35 k miles for oil changes and have not had any issues.
i know they're cheap, but i have to say i've reused a thousand washers / drain plugs in my years and have never had one leak. Has anybody had bad experiences with re-using these things?

I've never had any problems with other car either, however, since changing the oil in this thing is so much work (removing the 2 panels underneath with like 5000 screws and draining several points).. I rather put new washers just in case, especially because once the panels are back on you can't really see if there are any leaks until it's been leaking for a while
I hear you on that...I did a change recently also, and it wasnt as "fun" as my PreLP cars. LOL

I did a partial change today using my quickjack. I just removed the 2 panel because my oil and filter get here tomorrow so I wanted to give it a try. Damn! That was some work lol!!! And the front panel (smaller one) is a pain to remove after all the screws are out, it is tucked in everywhere!!!!
