VIDEO: Proper LP Oil Change Instructions – Seven Drain Points.

After a long wait, I've finally finished editing and uploading the video showing
the proper oil change process for the LP Gallardo.

Plot Twist: In a nice bit of foreshadowing, the thumbnail for the video gives
you a nice glimpse of the DEI Reflect-A-Gold heat "wrap" I've put on the
air induction system to get rid of heatsoak-- the topic of an upcoming video!

Anyway: Don't let the seven drain plugs scare you. It's actually a very easy
oil change – only takes about an hour and a half if you have the right tools.

Speaking of which:

Gallardo 5.2L: ~9L Required Per Change.
-Motor Oil – OEM (VW 504/507 Spec): Castrol Edge Professional LL03
-Motor Oil – High Performance: Motul 300V 5w-30
-Oil Filter – OEM: VW/Audi Oil Filter #079198405E
-Pre-Oil Change Treatment: Seafoam SF-16 Motor Treatment

Non-Standard Required Tools:
-LP 5.2L Oil Filter Removal: Tekton 1-1/4" Socket
-Fluid Draining (All Models): XZN/Triple Square Metric Bit Set

Let me know if you have any questions!

PS- I am actually thinner than in the video. The seatbelt makes me look like I
have a gut. Then again, who cares, I'm in a Lamborghini.

Ali this post is awesome!!! I like the bits of text between each frame explaining each part and where things are. Excellent work. Incredibly helpful. This is the sort of project that with the help of such a video is possible to do at a club DIY day. Keep up the great work bro.
Is the oil filter in the LP that accessible? It is certainly not as accessible in the pre LP and is my major concern. This looks simple. Great job.
Great write up. And you showed drain points that I have not been using. That's plain awesome.

Only thing I would add, is to replace the crush washers on the drain plugs. You may get two uses, but I would think after a few oil changes, they are just not going to do their job.

Thank you for taking the time to make this.

Mike
Yeah I forgot to note to replace them. But they should be replaced.
Is there a kit you can buy with the crush washers, oil filter and rubber o-ring replacement as well as the oil like an entire oil service kit anywhere? They have these for BMW and Mercedes but dunno for Lamborghini...
Nice work Ali, that is a first Nd incredibly helpful.

I like the wrap. Can you tell me what exhaust system do you have, from the little I heard it sounds very deep and rumbles.

Costco has them.... but you have to have an Executive Membership, they are in the back where they keep the dairy.
Excellent work, thank you for taking time to do this.

Question - should the oil filter be loosened / removed first before the drain plugs?

I am not familiar with this system, however in many other canister style applications the oil from the filter area is released into the drain pan after it is opened. Depending on the car, this could be a half quart of oil or more of used oil that needs to be drained.

Curious if this applies to the LP engine as well.

Thanks!
If you want you can, it's probably even better. However the way the filter is I'd say it was probably a cup at most of oil. There is more left in the lines and whatnot after the change.
Great Video AM, thank for doing this. A bit more involved then the per-LP but one of the easiest videos I have seen. Cheers!
Great video and very helpful for the DIY people. Russk said your car is wrapped? Is that 3m gloss sky blue wrap? Any pics of the car? Thanks.

I'm assuming it is a wrap, last time I saw Ali's car it was white. Of course he might have painted it himself, lol.
another view of drain points.

I had called lambo dealer and they offer only 4-5 washer for oil change. Next time I change the oil I will measure inside and outside diameter for all 7 washers, I may be able to create a kit. as when buying form ebay etc you get like 10-100 washer packs of same kinds.

Also I think if you open the oil filter cap before draining from drain points, it will drain faster too. I read here somewhere that people are using seafoam prior to oil change (1 bottle to oil and then drive like 100 miles and them change oil) what do you guys think about that
Haha yes my car is wrapped! I'm very happy with the shade of blue. It stands out without standing out too much, if that makes sense.

That's literally in my video... lol.
First step is forget seafoam. Just do your maintenance on time yearly regardless of mileage. Guy before was technically right, second step is remove old filter first. Replace it last so that everything has time to drain. Thirdly, the order is wrong. Tank first, then go down the order from highest point to lowest. Lastly, since it wasn't mentioned, the car must be driven after filling with 8.5L, because now the oil thermostat must be warmed up enough to open, so that it can fill the oil cooler correctly. After the car is FULLY warmed up, 85 degrees C for the oil, up to 110C for the water, (depending on climate), the car must idle for 30 seconds to 1 min, shut off, and check within 30 seconds. Correct oil level is at the "o" of "do" in "do not fill " on the dipstick. Hope this clarifies for you DIY guys.

Anyone have the sizes for the 7 washers?
Phlip
I may have overlooked it but, what are the torque specs for reinstalling the different bolts?
Awesome DIY Video on Oil Change. I'm currently driving a SL-550 and seriously considering a 2011 LP-550 so I'm researching how much of the PM I can do myself. Seeing Video's like this is making my decision a little more certain. Keep up the good work...
