I couldn’t find enough photographic detail of the modification process that many people did to fit the later rear lights to the earlier cars, but gambled on it being reversible. Turns our there’s a fair bit of bodywork hacking to get the new lights to fit which means its not quite straightforward to get the old lights back.
Would anyone happen to have a picture of the rear light area on a Pre-LP car?
The right side is a problem. I’d love to see what it originally looked like. I think it was a full circle that had a rubber grommet that took a plastic protrusion from the light as the third anchor point. The newer lights have three anchor points that bolt on.
Here are the two lights side by side
Top picture is the LP640 light, bottom is the Pre-LP light.
There is a spare connector on the new “old” light. I can’t find anywhere for it to go, I suspect it for side indicators (which my car does not have). If anyone can confirm that I’d appreciate it!
Main connector is the same, and I appear to have full light functionality with that connector disconnected. So it is just that right side mounting point that I need to get sorted…somehow..
