After updating all your profile settings, check out the new 'Site Info' link at the top of the page. This link contains all of the site policies (posting,privacy,terms of service etc), sponsor info, and promotional materials.

Some of this is still a work in progress so feel free to coment on any portion of it.

It appears that updating my user profile *requires* my birthdate to be entered? Is this correct operation?

Yes, it's part of the COPPA system designed to id people under 13 years old.
