Scissor door mod to Gallardo

I am sure this must have been thrown around on this board before, but I have not seen it. I am guessing that a scissor door modification to a Gallardo is considered a mistake and will hurt the value of the car? Otherwise, I am not seeing why this wouldn't be done more often. I have seen people put scissor doors on all types of cars, I even saw someone just post a picture of this mod put on a Honda Civic or something equally as odd, of which that post was just a joke, but just saying. Has anyone done this? Or is this considered sacreligous?

gallardo isn't designed for flip up doors

to modify it, you can either cut up fender and door OR use a system that opens door side-to-side first and then push up.

both solutions are just stupid and for poseurs

i saw the second system in person with a horrible body kit and wheels.

scissor doors should be functional instead of for looks IMO. they aren't that great to be honest. you have to bow down to get in.

Scissor doors are cool because they move in one direction, up. With aftermarket kits, the door opens out, then up, followed by a persistent wiggling at the top of the motion. Looks silly.

I for one, don't mind disappointing people with my regular door. Except kids, they get really disappointed...

Ha! This is the truth. I was at a car show last summer when 3 boys in that 10 - 12 year old range came up to the car with jaws dropping. This was the first Lamborghini they had ever seen (I live in rural northern Minnesota) and they wanted me to open the doors for them. I had to explain to them that this cars doesn't have the scissors doors and as I did you could see the disappointment in their faces. I wanted to climb into my shoe. My brother (Viper owner) was parked next to me at the show. He was quick to jump in and say that the scissors doors were reserved for the "real" Lambo's. He always has my back like that. :D

Vertical car door conversion kits are not a popular G-Car modification. Kits tend to make the doors wobble when raised and lowered.

A Vertical door kit installed on a Gallardo makes the door flimsy.

Look at the vertical doors on Murci and you will see they are solidly constructed and go straight up and down.

Lastly, there are many other mods you can do to the G-Car that will give you a greater return on your investment.

It ain't so. See I said it :) This was just a curiosity. I am actually way more in the other camp, I"m a no mods at all type of person. I would not buy any car that had a TT on it. No offense to anyone that does that, but to me putting a TT on a Lamborghini is similar to those chics that already have nice large boobs but decide to get a huge boob job anyway and get gigantic porn star boobs. Over kill IMO. I prefer stock all the way around. I can understand exhaust mods a little more, but that's about it. Although the only mod I will do is I have always been a big fan of rear wing spoilers on really any sports car, so I will most likely get a SL or purchase an after market spoiler.

I'm not saying I'm doing it I was just asking about it, but I really don't get this thing about it being so taboo, sheesh it's a Lambo it's not like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa but maybe that just means I'm more red neck than I realized. But I see some of you guys putting all sorts of mods on like TT what not but the natural idea to put the doors on is like peeing on the Alamo

As much as I love scissor doors I would never butcher my G with them. That's like putting a Lamborghini emblem on a corvette or maybe not?

How are all the other ungodly exhaust mods and engine mods etc all perfectly fine but adding Lambo doors to a Lambo is considered taboo that will ruin the value. How does that make sense? I'm just trying to understand the logic, people put spoilers on, Jay Leno takes the spoiler off his countach, but the doors can't do?

For one, exhaust is simply a change in sound not in the created design of the vehicle. You would be making an unbalanced comparison, apples to oranges. Like others have said, aftermarket Lambo doors will not function the same as factory doors. I have always felt that it cheapens the car to a wanna be Murcie. I'm sure we all have a different take on this, but that's mine.

I think it might be the same logic as why replica cars are looked down upon by many. I think it gives the impression of someone pretending to be someone they are not - that is, to drive a car that they can't really afford to own. The other mods you referred to may change the sound of a Gallardo, or may enhance the Gallardo's performance, or may simply be lightly cosmetic. But that's different from trying to turn the G into something like a Murcie, which costs about twice as much. At least that's my thought on it.

Most mods we do to our cars are derived from something, usually a racecar version of the car (light wheels, CF body panels, etc). Some things are done because we like the look (CF accents, painted calipers, etc). With vertical doors, they don't serve any function other than to look 'cool' when the car is parked with the door open.....which is a very small percentage of the time. The vertical doors on cars actually designed with vertical doors serve a purpose. they allow the door to open without having a vertical seam where the door meets the fender. If a vertical seem was possible vertical doors would always be replaced with conventional doors during the design process.

Not really getting how that looks awful, it actually looks normal to me. Scissor doors on odd duck cars like a Honda or Chevy Impala or something, yes, that is ridiculous, but still not getting why scissor doors on a Lambo is nothing but a natural fit. I think Lambo should make them standard on both the flagship and V10. The V12 is enough IMO to distinguish it as the flagship car.

Like I said I probably would never do it, although at this point I've all but changed my mind and have decided to go Gallardo. But as I mentioned, I am more of a keep everything stock kind of guy. I get that and am on board with that. And the Gs were not designed to have the scissor doors that the flagship cars were, so I would think there would be some structural issues that were involved.

When people ask me if the doors go up, I tell them I paid extra for the horizontal opening option. :)
