In my search for a Gallardo I came across one that ticks almost all of my boxes. Only problem is I found out it previously had engine problems and had an engine replacement done by the dealer. The work was not performed at a Lamborghini dealership. Dealer said they would welcome a PPI and then referred me to the same third party who replaced the engine for them. I called up the closest Lamborghini dealership and arranged one there. Now dealer is saying they don’t feel comfortable having a PPI done at Lamborghini because they’re afraid too many things might get dinged because they don’t have full service records.

Red flag?

"things might get dinged because they don’t have full service records."

I don't even understand what that means lol. So I'd say that's a bunch of crap from them.
Basically saying the dealership will flag a long list of items as needing to be repaired/done due to the lack of service records for the vehicle.

They seem worried that I will use that as a negotiating tactic.

Hahaha. That is the point of the PPI. Here, buy our car but don't look under the hood or have anyone who knows what they're looking at take a peek. Uncle Five Finger Joey, him you can trust.

It would certainly raise a red flag for me.

Jefferey was right though, that still means nothing.

If a Lambo Dealership 'dinged' things due to lack of records, that would be lying. If there is no record of clutch service, and the clutch snaps good, then it is fine, regardless of history. That is literally the point of the PPI. History doesn't matter. History can matter to you, give you an idea of maintenance and care, but the PPI tech won't even consider it.

I think the fact is, the seller here never got a PPI, didn't have the other shop look over the car, and doesn't want to deal with fixing the bunch of little things (that should rightfully be fixed). They would rather wait for the uninformed buyer to come along, pay cash and walk/drive out the door.

Is it honest johns car sales? Tell them to take a hike. There are great cars out there. This one will have lots of problems down the road. Very few mechanics have the ability to fix these correctly. Anyone can do an engine swap.

I know this an old thread, but I'm having the same issue with a car i'm looking to buying, pretty much my perfect spec car but dealler is a Lambo specialist and does not want a third party PPI done for the same reasons mentioned above, they're saying they will do a PPI and send me the report

Red Flag; if you are paying for the PPI, why would they care abut who does it. It is just letting both sides know what the issues are before striking a deal. Has to be hiding something or know of an issue if he is unwilling to allow a dealer supported PPI

The only true "Lambo Specialist" is a factory authorized DEALER. If they are aren't factory authorized, they are nothing but a "reseller".

Don't believe reseller will do the same inspection as a neutral party that has no interest if the car sells or not.
