OK.. I'm a newbie with a valid questions...

92 OBD1 - No check engine lights...all is fine with car. Last night I was reading a shop manual and have some questions.

In the event of check engine light will any OBD1 reader work or does it require a special reader?

The shop manual says if you get a check engine you can read codes by turning the ignition on and off 3 times (without starting) and on the 4th "on" will display code. Then it had a square block that read "not valid for US and Swiss cars". Don't know if this pertained to above procedure or the next topic in the book.

Can anyone comment?

Hi,

there is no reader for OBD1.....

The turn key 3/4 times drill will cause the 'check engine L&R" to Flash a certian number of blinks if the LIE's have recorded an error code.

Then one needs to compare the number of Flashes (if any) to the chart in the Service Manuel.

Got it - Thanks.

How cool is that! Yes, I have the work book, so if you get 2 Flashes just follow the flow chart, 3 flashes - follow flow chart, etc

I think that's great...
