OK - newbie quesitons. Early Model Diablo.

My Rad Fans are always on while driving in town and want to know if this is normal.

With my former FCar, temp would get up to about 194, fans kick in, cool car down, then turn off. Cycle keeps repeating.

With the Diablo, they are off on start up and when the temp starts coming up they turn on...and they stay on. Hit the freeway and get some air flowing and they go off. Come off the off-ramp, go a few miles they come on and stay on.

Is this normal for "city" driving? Car has no heat issues and temp gauge is always below the "12 o'clock" position.

Perhaps your gauge is wrong.

I was driving with a friend in his 1992 Diablo, standing at a red light the temp raised up to 95-98 degrees C in just about 2 Minutes till the fans went on and cooled down to 80-85 again...

Did the fans "go off" when it cooled down to 80-85?

I'm in Florida and its still hot outside. I'm trying to understand if they fans are always running while driving in traffic, or about how long should they stay on before shuting down. With the FCar, they would come on and run constantly for about one minute - temp goes down and the fans turn off.

Should be the same on the Diablo...

We have a VT here which has running fans as soon as the ignition is on.
This was a later modification and for sure not stock.

How long does it take for the fans to turn on after a cold start??

Mine turn on after the engine temp hits 80. and will stay on most of the time.
Dont forget the Diablo has one the best coolling systems

I hope this is meant ironically...

The fans should only turn on in traffic not on open roads.

First of all I would check if the gauge is really indicating the correct value.

I installed thermometers to check accuracy:

If the car gets really warm you could unmount the rads and clean them with citron acid, it's in fluids used for decalcifying coffee percolators.
Use these fluids and you will wonder what is all in your rads

That is correct.. only on at a stop and not on the open roads

Unless heater temp is set higher than outside temp, fan will come on because a/c is in operation, there isn't an a/c off switch.

Doesn't the A/C only force one (right?) fan on?

On my 99 US model, left fan, (drivers side), comes on with a/c.

Thanks every one! Gees I love this place. I'm all warm and fuzzy :)

OK - Picked up car with new Tubi, test pipes and Tubi tips. Whooo Yaaa !

Temp perfect and all good with fans.

BTW - Yes, with A/C on fan always goes on - left fan (drivers side). Mechanic said car is perfect and has never seen such a nice 92 - ever. Even when on rack, all underside pefect!
