I'm heading to New York City tomorrow morning to check out the Orange 6.0 there. Everything looks good, the odometer error was by Manhattan Motors and they swear by it and are in the process of resolving it. Fat fingers on the keyboard is all it was. Car was inspected by Manhattan Motors in June this year, and is in alleged perfect shape. :)

So, I'm heading there to do my own inspection and the test drive.

...yes, I will be changing the rims and getting rid of that FLIPMODE crap.

Any Lambo owners want to meet in Manhattan for dinner or drinks? I'll be in NYC tomorrow all day and then until about 7pm on Wednesday.

My cell is 941-773-7833.

Love the color BEN!

Do you think that because of the size of the rims that it might have already done damage to the viscous coupling. I know of some Murcis that have had larger after market rims on them and it ruined the viscous coupling.

Also does anyone know how to check the viscous coupling to see if it has any excess wear on them?

You need to do the math on the wheels & tires that are currently on the car.
If the overall diameter has not changed from the stock diameter then you are fine. If they put bigger wheels on and didn't re-size the tires properly then you have potential problems with the vc.

Just got off the phone with the dealer who walked to the car and read the size off the tires. The rims are 18" on front and 19" on the back. he has the bill for the rims and tires, $15,000+. Stupid waste of money. Anyhoo, the sizes are:

225/35/ZR18 for front tires
335/25/ZR19 for back tires

Lamboweb.com states the front should be 235/35/ZR18, as opposed to the 225, that's the only difference I could see.

Thoughts?

The car may not have even been driven much with these wheels on it. Didn't they use it for display purposes? Have them look at it when they do the inspection. I wouldn't worry about it. How many people that actually have changed the wheels on a 6.0 have had this problem and are there any first hand accounts?

Ben ,

I don't know what damage those ugly wheels would've done, but here are some computations you might want to consider.

Factory spec:

  • Specification-----Sidewall-----Radius-----Diameter-----Circumference-----Revolutions-----Difference
  • 235/35-18--------3.2 in------12.2 in------24.5 in----------76.9 in---------824 / mile---------N/A
  • 335/30-18--------4.0 in------13.0 in------25.9 in----------81.4 in---------778 / mile---------5.9%

Flipmode spec:

  • Specification-----Sidewall-----Radius-----Diameter-----Circumference-----Revolutions-----Difference
  • 225/35-18--------3.1 in------12.1 in------24.2 in----------76.0 in---------833 / mile---------N/A
  • 335/25-19--------3.3 in------12.8 in------25.6 in----------80.4 in---------788 / mile---------11.2%

The size difference is substantial. I don't know how many miles it would take to damage the viscous coupling. You might want to ask some dealers on their opinion on that.

I made a mistake on the Flipmode spec. I should've calculated the front as 225/35/18.

Ben,

the manufacture, Lamborghini, the front and rear tirese/wheels size SHALL be no more than a 1% differrence in the circumrence. i.e. you could put 22 or 24 " whhels and tires as long as there is no more than this 1% diffirence from front to rear. As a matter of fact Lambo WILL NOT honor warranty on VT drive car equipment if the wheels/tires have this difference, (PS this goes for the Gallardo also).

This is why they make the tire profile lower on the rear and higher on the front when they go to a bigger wheel on the rear, to keep within thiws 1% area. The lower profile tire gives you a harder ride, the taller wheel causes a rub in the inner fender well at speeds over 125mph when the car sucks down the way it should.

I have also seen these cars with aftermarket wheels/tires have the shocks backed out almost all the way so there is no bounce and rub, this screws up your sway, ride, balance and a very unsafe car driving over 125mph or so.

Maya wheel maker comes the closet I have seen, with about 1.75% difference, still taking a chance but not a big one. These sizes you have are over 4% difference.

IMO I would,

A), Make sure I got rid of the wheels/tires on it and replace with stock size PRIOR to driving any further.

B), Make sure there are NOLEAKS from the VT, have a dealer open it up and make sure there is no burnt fluid, shavings, discoloration or loss of fluid, ifso this is a big indication the VT has problems. (I am thinking with as low miles, and I am sure easy miles there may have been no damage yet).

C) Have dealer checvk if shocks/suspension has been backed out upall the way or out of factory specs toallow these wheels/tires to fit.

D) Last but not least make sure they have not re-adjusted the Brakes so the TIRE/WHEEL would fir over this area. I have seen it as bad as the brake hardware shaved down inside.

Anything further contact me direct.

PS See if they will stand behind their car with a 30 day 1500 mile warranty on just the VT, or pay all costs to put it back, afterall this car has not been able to sell since Feb 04, they probably need to get rid of it save their flooring costs!!!

Examples:

A 235x35x18 has a circumference of 76.87 in / 24.47 in diameter.

A 225x35x18 has a circumference of 76.02 in / 24.20 in diameter.

By changing the width and not altertering the ratio, the "size" of the wheel would have altered the operation of the viscous coupling unit. Hard to know if damage was the result.

This car has been for sale since Feb? Where were they listing it and for how much? This ebay listing is the first time I have seen this car for sale. I must have missed it. I don't know why it wouldn't sell quick though, the stickers and wheels can be changed easily and the car has barely any miles.

Roy thanks for the super detailed advice.

Side note: The car has been for sale since Bustah Rhymes bought it and modded it. 3 Years now.

He still owns it.

The dealer selling it is more of a storage facility than an actual dealer. The dealers primary business is storing celebrity and star cars for shows and shipping them as needed in their trucks.

They were instructed to 'try' and sell it now, hence the eBay listing.

Least that's what I'm told. :) Anyone who knows different speak up! :)

Ben,

Sorry took so long to answer, I was in Canada again looking at a ONE OF A KIND, SUPER CAR, a 01, 6.0 in TITANIUM with 10K miles and wing, one of a kind great paint and everything car, dealer asking 195 US, I think would go for 192 US plus 1.6% US tax to bring into the USA.

Anyways, I know for a fact thecar was for sale in February of 04, because they tried to sell it to me at $195K. I told them they where crazy, I ended up buying from AL in Milano a 01q, 6.0 triple yellow, carbon clutchand about 20 K of other goodies for 192K!!

I dont know what they are asking now,but I think I would pay more than 185K, you could get 5K for the after market wheels ect.. making a net buy of 180K, I think a good deal considering that the 6.0 has LESS THAN 177 UNITS EVER produced. These cars are bound to go up.

Hell to date the MERCY after02,03,04 already has more than 1500 in production. I venture to say a properly tuned 01 6.0 will take a 6.2 ANY DAY!!!!

Dont get me wrong, you know I have two (2) b03 Mercys, lovethem for their simple drive ability ect...
But I still have my two (1) 6.0 and my 6.0se, WHICH
by the way has TALLER gears and APPROX 580 HP from the factory!!

If I am having a LAMBO NEED MY FIX day, I will drive MY 6.0 any day of theweek over ANYTHING ELSE!!!

Come on produced ONLY 1 year, will NEVER come back!!!, how can you go wrong. IMO you should keep the yellow, 2nd mortage your house and the orange keep it company!!!

I am going to get the TITANIUM just because TRIPS are better than ANY PAIR, even in poker. Mark my words these 6.0 will be going higher than any used 3 year old mercy for along time.

THE LAST OF THE TRUE LAMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i AM GETTING THE 01 tITAUM
