So on "Top Gear" last night they raced a Murcielago against a Mitsubishi Evo-8 and the Murcie could not shake the Mitsu from its tail at all until the driver (a touring car racing driver) eventually spun the Murcie and the Mitsu (with Jeremy Clarkson at the wheel) sped past.

On the other side of the coin though, they compared the same Mitsu against a normal 1.3 litre family car and while out of turbo boost range, the Mitsu was slower on acceleration. The Mitsu has a 2 litre engine boosted to 400 horsepower.

Did anyone else see this and have any comments?

Yes saw it too last night. Remember Clarkson hates Lambos, otherwise he would have used a Ferrari ( which he loves. ) on the track it is OK, but you put them on the open road and no way would it keep up.
Besides that it looks like a tarts car !!

I would not say that the Murcie was "smoked." It just couldn't get away from the EVO. Also it's ultimate lap time around the circuit was quicker than the EVO by as much as 2 seconds I think.
It does though demonstrate the point that if outright performance per $ is all that you're after then don't buy an exotic.
The car looked AMAZING in Verde Ithaca!

I sounded to me like the Evo would be a pig to live with - you'd be spending most of your driving time trying to keep it in turbo boost all the time to avoid it turning into a gutless tractor. Also I'd wonder just how reliable it would be on a day to day basis, given the extreme state of tuning required to get 400hp out of a tiny 2 litre engine. I think the turbo lag would drive me insane.

well in the UK the "open road" is not quite the same as in the US and the Evo would probably be quicker than any Lambo as it is smaller and so much more chuckable

you have to admit 400hp from a 2 litre engine is pretty spectacular from an engineering point of view and these cars would make great track day cars

shame they look hideous inside and out and (whilst at £50k they are not a comparison for exotica) this particular one is way too expensive for a Jap box saloon - must sensible people would buy an almost as quick second hand 996

I actually had a run in, with a MR340 the baby brother of the 400BHP version shown last night. I wasn't able to shake him off me at all and that was running flat out down a slip road onto a motorway. At 130mph i finally started to put some air between us, but i had to scream the car through the gears to do it. I'm fairly confident that the 400 version would be looking to come by had the same thing happened.

Problem is with these cars they're aimed at a very strange segment of the car buyers market. They cost almost £50k and yet have the interior of a Hyundai. As a track car they get hammered by anything from a Cateham costing £20k all the way up to a Radical / Ariel costing £35k. The running costs are huge too, at well under 15mpg average and service intervals that make ferraris look reliable. So who exactly buys them? OK, i know you get a free baseball cap and stack of alpine audio stickers with each purchase, but come on £50k! ;)

I think I'd rather have my Countach and £3,000 in change.

You need to rename the title, its not "Murcielago gets beat by Mitsu" but "Mitsu tails Lambo." Something along those lines. You scared me for a minute, and even if the Mitsu would beat it, at the end of the day, your driving a Lamborghini Murcielago, and hes driving a Mitsubishi.

The mitsubishi was only able to tail the Lambo, and it is overall not that great of a car. Not to mention the fact that it costs 47000 pounds!

The title was just a little dig in the ribs, kinda reflecting Clarkson's glee at passing the spun murcie.

well 400HP for a 2litre turbo engine is not so spectacular
i have seen many tuners here in italy put out over 460 HP from escort csw and lancia EVO and this with no NOS iniection
the problem is always the turbo lag : if you want more power you need more pression and you need bigger turbo but bigger turbo is bigger lag: no way out

I think that you need to shut your mouth. Which car do you think more people would pay attention to, a mitsu, or a Lamborghini? Feeling insecure? If that is what makes you happy then fine. Go back to the honda civic boards where you just might fit in. :whip:

Might not be the smartest thing, to talk sh!t on Lamborghini. You knew you would take one over a Mitsu, hands down, so no BS. Two things,
1: You need to go back to High School, learn some spelling, grammer, etc. rules
2: What are you? Like 13, 14 and your coming to a Lamborghini site, to start sh*t.
Face it, a Lamborghini will destroy a Mitsubishi, BTW, DYK (did you know) that Mitsu Evo 8 GTRS TT AEM 5Zigen, blah, blah, blah,(whatever the f**k) has Turbos, and all that? My car is Twin Turbo, and theres no way on earth a peice of sh*t Evo will take me out, and a Lamborghini Diablo stock, Mitsu might be it, but if you put one mod on the Diablo, I don't know say a Twin Turbo, or a Supercharger, the Evo driver might as well, go jerk off. Face it, Rice rockets, compare in no way to European vehicles. And if you believe so, I think your in the wrong forums. Maybe your the one who should give a little credit, before you leave.

BTW: No one needs to know you have a 2 inch cock.

This post is getting kind of out of hand...no need to start a fight. Nobody is disagreeing that the Mitsubishi is not a good car, however given that this is a Lambo board people are going to stick up for Lambo. And around a track there is no way that the mitsubishi would beat the Lambo. And lambo4me....mitsubishi is not hot stuff...if you watched the episode (which based on your posts I don't think you did) you would have seen that after the Murci race segment, the Mitsu got it's a$$ handed to it on a platter in a drag race with 1.4 liter rented (fiat? was it).
