LP vs Pre LP - Why the hate?

1401 Views 59 Replies 30 Participants Last post by  The Anesthetist
In todays world, there is a lot that divides us, Religion, Politics, Money, favorite movie, etc. And in recent years, it's not enough to simply disagree, we are being taught to actively hate anyone who doesn't have the same exact opinion on something/anything.
Why is this now being applied to Gallardos? It is already proven fact that the gallardo is the car true Lamborghini fans wish Lamborghini never built, the embarrassment of the brand, the 'poor mans lambo'. All these things are true (it's OK to deny it, it's a hard one to swallow).
We Gallardo owners had one point of solace, other gallardo owners, we were the same! Poors who couldn't afford a 'real' Lambo. But now....now we need to hate each other too? I can't think the LP looks better than a pre LP and still be friends with a pre LP owner? I can't think the PreLP sounds better without all LP owners hating me?
Why? Why has it come to this?
Is it society making us apply societal norms to something that is removed from society? I don't want my car passion ruined by that.
Let's try to do better.

Meh - I had a pre-LP and it was god awful. I don't think I drove it once when it didn't try to kill me, probably every three months something important broke. The buttons got sticky, fuel pumps burst, bad throttle bodies, a never ending stream of silly design failures which were mostly cured in the post-LP models. The first day I owned it a hose broke on the brake vaccum leaving me standing up in the seat trying to stop.

I loved it though - And because it was mine thought it more beautiful than any other version. I guess everyone thinks their particular "baby" is the most attractive (and I'll fight you if you say otherwise!).

Meh, I don’t think there is as big a rift between pre-LP and LP owners as you’re making it out to be. I also think very few people believe the Gallardo to be an embarrassment to Lamborghini. As a cheaper “entry level” Lamborghini it allowed the brand to stay afloat and indeed prosper to continue its existence to today. The Ferrari 360 was an “entry level” car too, no one is embarrassed by them. These are low production exotic cars we’re talking about here! These cars came out in the early 2000’s so yeah they’ve depreciated but as it is with the advancement of automotive technology (especially in the realm of exotics) cars depreciate as they become dated, then appreciate as they become reminisced about and missed for the characteristics they present from their era. In the case of the Gallardo, that’s a screaming naturally aspirated V10 and a rawness that does not exist in newer cars. I’m certainly happy (not embarrassed) to keep mine for a long time.

Sounds like an American thing. Never experienced it on the other side of the pond. A lambo is always cool 😊

I've never got any hate from anybody at any car meets, you might want to choose better friends lol... but honestly, I don't really care what others think. I bought my Gallardo for me, and not to make others happy and even if I decide to get another model (Aventador, Murci, Diablo, Huracan....) I would still try to keep my Gallardo because I freaking love it.

LP rocks.. only cuz I'm an Audi guy.. work on all my own ****... And don't trust anyone.. I can order almost all maintenance parts from my local Audi dealer and have them next day....... I respect both... But honestly why I went with gallardo and LP... Was looking at many other cars... If I can't work on it myself.... Or get parts.. it's a no from me dawg.

I agree with most of everything. Both Pre-LP and LP rock! I don't care what anyone thinks. You own a Lambo...case closed. I do my own work as well. I don't trust anyone either. If you want it done right, do it yourself (with some tiny exceptions). If I couldn't do the work, I wouldn't have bought the car. I prefer the looks of the Pre-LP and the sound but that is me. Remember, Frankie said it best "You buy a Ferrari when you want to be somebody. You buy a Lamborghini when you are somebody. " It doesn't matter which one you drive, it will always be a Lambo.

I don't know that I have seen as much "divide" as you say. Especially with LP vs Pre-LP. But even at Lambo meets I have usually felt pretty welcomed. But for sure there is a cost difference between the range of cars. I have definitely seen some of this before in other groups though. Porsche 911 owners vs Cayman vs Boxster. Or GT vs non GT, or say Porsche 996 vs anything hah. It's silly. I think true car enthusiasts don't really do that. It tends to be the internet or the people who are just posing to show off.

That said... since I own a Pre-LP I will post this fun internet meme here:
:) :) :)

Exactly. It's just Internet. No need to read too much into it. The fact is, nobody really gives a damn about our toys in RL.

The poor mans exotic is an Audi. There is nothing cheap about paying cash for a lambo or maintaining it.

Hogwash. Pre or LP, they are still amazing cars and stylistically head-turning. Fun to drive, raw gearbox, excellent sound, inspiring marquee. If any LP owner gives you grief about your pre LP it says all you need to know about them.

In Australia ALL exotics are VERY expensive - when I bought my 2004 it was $155k. Because of this price, I had A LOT of trouble reaching $155k, in other words I couldn't afford ANY other Lambo - it was the cheapest on the block. If I didn't buy the 2004 Lambo I was out of the Lambo "game".

NO ONE EVER has made fun because I own the cheapest Lambo model in Australia. EVERYONE here in Australia is in awe that I own a Lambo - to see a Lambo....... ANY Lambo!

BTW I own a 2016 AV roadster as well, which in Australia, is next level "rock star".

Mostly yes, but there has been other discussion I've seen in person and around the information super hwy.

This is the most true thing ever posted anywhere by anyone.

Unintended consequence of this thread......people are agreeing with each other and being accepting!! Win!!
I don't see "hate".
At least, from my view.
Maybe, it is just "joking" such as Harley Davidson "big twin" owners calling Harley Sportsters a girls' bike?
+1 for Lee's stick shift insight LOL.
I’m asking $7.5k for this Ford Fairlane 500 hardtop two door. Talk about poor man’s car!!!
Even comes with a new set of tires! Lol
