LP Normally Aspirated ECU/TCU Flash Tuning

I realise there have been numerous posts/threads over the years on ECU tuning. However in the past 2 years or so there have been several dongle flash tune devices on sale for LP 550/560/570 cars. I have been looking at what's available and it seems to come down to Zeuss, RSC (may be discontinued?) and VR. All cost $2-$3k and more for me as I'm in Australia. Has anyone out there purchased any of those devices and if so did you get pre and post dyno runs done (which I will do if I buy). I'd be very happy to get any feedback. If you have a TT car please don't post here. I am very happy with my 550-2 but quicker paddle shifts would be great and 30+ bhp would certainly be noticeable.

It's gonna be hard to get a clear answer on this subject. The TT guys are just gonna say drop 40K on it and be done with it. But there are many of us who don't wanna do that.

A 20K supercharger, now that'll sell like hotcakes....
Thanks Kratos. I moved from a Porsche TT to the LP 550 as I wanted the NA experience plus RWD and I have to say I love it! I have a GT3 for track work but as a fast road car in the twisty bits the G is simply superb except for the the e-gear.
Cheers

I agree. 30-40 more horsepower would make this car perfect to me. Sometimes when I'm passing in 4th gear on the interstate, I wish it had just a little more "umph".
I cannot for the life of me understand how tunes can cost any more than $100.00 or so!

Or why a turbo is 40 grand.
Tell me about it: especially considering that a Stage 1 turbo kit is essentially a slightly more complex muffler install + a tune.

Because anyone doing the job properly has invested 10+ years learning ecu code, binary, structure, decompiling etc and then invested financially around $250,000 minimum on equipment alone just to be able to do the job.
If anyone really thinks files should be $100 then they shouldn't be in the lambo market. Actually, any car market, engines are costly.

I agree and happy to pay a reasonable price for a product that delivers. The reason I started this thread was to see if anyone out there has had real experience with a dongle flash-tune purchase and if so if they have before and after dyno runs. If I could see real independent data and the benefits were quantifiable for both engine and e-gear then I'd buy. Simple as that. However, so far no one has responded with any real info.

360jay is the only person I've seen that has good data in this area. Your best bet is to inbox him and pick his brain, and hope he gives you what you need. Other than that, you won't get anything from this thread....
We've done hundreds of tests on Gallardo's, the rule of thumb is that if you go with decent companies like RSC, Eurocharged etc you will get a good product and be happy. These are great to tune but you have to be realistic, your going to get a car that is more throttle happy, free'er revving and has a "lighter feel" if you get my meaning.
Gear shift is essential on the egear and makes a world of difference on road and track. 17-22% increase is no problem in shift speed and is a saviour for clutches.

Of course, non of the above are going to be in the same league as a turbo gallardo but then nothing is really. There are two sides to this, one where the real value of a Gallardo is in it being stock looking and the other where people modify beyond that of OEM function and you then lose 98% of your resale market. As a high value item you will find it harder to sell not only because the car is massively modified but also because most finance companies won't offer finance on such a high value vehicle which is so far away from oem spec.

Ive done both and love them both equally, it all about where you want to focus your options. This is what makes life so great, different strokes for different folks.
Many people like aftermarket wheels, I love the oem alloys of the Gallardo.

I give up. I guess no one in this community has ever purchased one of these dongle flash tune devices. Given I can't get any feedback from real buyers I'll just stay with the standard tune which isn't bad anyway.

If you use the search facility there are quite a few, here are a couple to start you off.

Ive had an ECU tune done on my 08 Superleggera - it is fairly common to see a smaller % gain on any tune compared to the base model pre-LP - i.e. after a tune the output is theorectially the same for base model and SL even though the SL has a higher starting point. I have no other mods apart from carbon airboxes and BMC filters.

Anyway, I did not have my car dyno'd so done know the exact figures but I would say that in my case the mid range seemed better - from a feel perspective it is not miles different - it just feels smoother. Top end seems very very similar to before.

I had the TCU done at the same - this upgrade seems more noticeable in improvement in that it brings the gear changes closer to what they are like in sport mode.

So all in all there are some improvements but they are quite subtle. The big question then becomes price - for the right price it may be worth it. If you are looking for some good noticeable changes then just a tune isnt going to do it.
Had my RSC already to install this weekend and my battery went on me (soooooo pissed).

Battery install Wednesday when the weather is better.
