I was wondering if anyone knows of a replacement for the Jalpa alternator. I have the Bosch unit - 65 Amp. I went to Car Quest with the part# from Raymond but they claimed that it wasn't right? I also had them cross reference the Nippendenso Part and they gave me some tiny one that doesn't fit. Any info would be greatly Appreciated.

Bosch # on the original is 0 120 489 138 139

Thanks

Take care,

I posted once the part number of the Countach, the Countach has a 85 Amp-Unit and the number is locked by Lamborghini since they let made a special mount for the Countach-Engine.
There is no need to buy a new alternator, bring it to the Bosch dealer and let it rebuild.
I think the Jalpa has a common Alternator which is not blocked.

Jalpa Alternator?

Greetings all - this is my first post! What a great site!

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd tack this on to this old one under the "Jalpa Alternator" header...because I am thinking that I may have a problem with my alternator...but I don't know...I only have three known issues with the car, but they are annoying and I need to get them solved...

I am not sure if I have enough information about my problems to get any solid advice, but here goes:

1) my car/battery seems to be _completely_dead unless I jump start it. When I jump it, it fires right up and drives perfectly until I shut it down, at which point it goes completely cold again (no lights, nothing). The battery is a new Optima.

2) In a (possibly related) challenge, I am unable to get any response from my headlights when driving - occasionally they flap up and down - but lately they havent responded at all.

3) And, once last summer, all of the lights (headlights and dash lights) blinked off when I hit a small bump. This made me think that there is a loose wire or something somewhere.

Are these issues related? Any chance there is a single fix for all of them?

Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone has!!

Update:

During the pre-purchase inspection today, I told my mechanic that I had been having this problem (the alternator doesnt seem to be charging as well as it should: around 12.5 - instead of up near 14 - and killing the battery) and to pull the alternator and replace if necessary.

So we (he asked me to stick around and help out) literally spent 2.5 hours trying to get that nut off of the bolt on the bottom of the thing. We were one step away from heating a wrench to angle it!! WOW!!! Im sure thats not even that big of a deal, but that was an eye-opening experience for me (total rookie)!!

Anyway - we pulled it out and checked it and found that the alternator is totally fine - brushes etc. - as new - Somehow, once everything was back together, the alternator is charging fine now (up under 14), so perhaps it was a bit of grime or something - but he wasnt sure exaclty what happened - nothing changed.

So, the thought is that maybe the little wire that leads to it - mine is (Orange with Black Stripes) is not getting enough juice.

Anyone else have any thoughts? (Like I said - it seems to be working fine now, so maybe something was just knocked loose)

Thanks -

Collin

PS - all lights, signals etc. are working - its just the headlamps arent popping and lighting...

PPS - the rest of the car checked out excellently!!

Dave,

I had my alt rebuilt! My mechanic tried all the ones listed on Raymond's site to no avail. You can also fit a bigger one in with a mnew bracket. You will also have to machine down the axle and use the old pully.

I will check my part number tomorrow for you though.
