My guess is the lack of ALA and AWD for the STO is proving to be a challenge to beat the Performante time and they are looking for a few seconds.

I still can’t figure why they defined the engine and gave up 25ish lb/ft of torque, seems a little more torque might be worth a little bit of time as well.

Agreed, especially since you could probably program the ECU to provide that torque in only the top gears if you were worried about traction.
