Hey guys,

Looking to hard wire my radar detector, I'm bringing it to a shop but was wondering if anyone know where the power is tapped into. Do they usually go to the overhead dome light for power? I'm using an Escort 360 if that matters.

No, you want to connect to a fuse that powers on/off with car so detector turns on/off with car. It's a very simple mod, don't tap into a wire, get one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009K6U582/ref=psdc_6355937011_t2_B011I9QZX2 and then plug it into the location for power outlet. Very easy to run the cord under trim to fuse panel in passenger side footwell.

I also just did my new Lotus, really does only take 15 minutes and easy to do.

wow that's really helpful and a very clean install. Do you know which extended wire I need? Right now I have the flat 12 foot escort cord:
https://www.amazon.com/Escort-Strai...t+radar+wire&qid=1557174826&s=gateway&sr=8-15

But I assume I'll need a different one. As far as the trimming goes. Where did you tuck the wire?

Thank you brother, that's very helpful. I'm going to buy both this and that top link you referred to. Any chance you could take a photo of your fuse box so I know the location of the slot you use? Thank you.

I can do that tomorrow. But in your owners manual it will show the power outlet fuse location. Also before you buy the add a fuse let me make sure that is for the size of the fuse we use. Pretty sure it is but I have 3 cars I have done this to and I know one of them was a mini fuse

Following. Installing my radar tomorrow so knowing what fuse to tap into would be great.
Also, how are the passenger side panels removed? Do the just pull off?

have the escort 360 hardwired in my huracan, its saved me many times in NJ

How did you hard wire it? Mirror power or dome light power? Or fuse tap? I was going to fuse tap into the box by the passenger footwell but I can’t seem to work the wires into the dash area to run it down

Checked my car and oops.... the Huracan I didnt wire myself, got confused since did my R8's, Lotus and SQ5 and they all just kind of blended together as was pretty much same procedure for all. For my Huracan I was at my friends shop getting something done to car and I bought the detector from him so he wired it up. I watched him do it and was very simple and took about 15 minutes. He had a wire snake that made it easier by pulling the cord under roof liner. Sorry for the confusion

Do you know what fuse # he tapped into? Any idea why he snaked thru the roof liner? I would assume your tuner got power from the fuse box on the passenger footwell area.. Then went down from the A Piller?

If you have that snake tool I'm sure it's easier to pull it under roof liner right over to A pillar. Instead of tucking under trim. And yea went to passenger side footwell. As for fuse location best to use the power outlet one since you know that goes on and off with ignition. He is on this forum and I will see if I can get him to chime in with tips

I wonder if he used the snake tool to go from the A pillar down behind the dash...I looked at the dash and there is ZERO room to hide the wire without taking the A pillar and trim pieces out and hiding the wires behind it. If you can somehow go from A pillar straight down between the windshield and the dash that would work.

I am rocking the Escort 360 and I got a couple and ran a 20 foot phone cable from the front of the windshield, up the liner and back down the passenger seat and into the cigarette outlet by the armrest.

Just a easier DIY option for those interested. $10 for the cable and coupler from Walmart and you use the original escort cigarette power cable.

I will be hardwiring it when the car goes in for tint next week.

I just took it all apart yesterday to do proper wire tuck. Tip, don’t remove the a pillar like I did. It’s a pain. Just tuck it down the mini window.

Crap didn’t take a good photo of the fuses. If someone want to post pictures I’ll tell you which one I used for the radar. For the dash cam I tapped into homelink which is bank A, slot number 5.

Thanks for the info! Can you take a photo of the fuse box tap? Also how did you tuck the wire down to the fuse box? I see the wire running from the A pillar and then down behind the dash?

That's awesome. Thank you. How did the liners come apart? Did you just pull on them and do they just push back on?

What do you mean by tucking it down the mini window?

I'm in the middle of wiring my detector and dash cam but I can't find the way to run my wire to the fuse panel.

Specifically from the headliner to the passenger footwell.

How did you guys run thru the A Pillar? And if you had to remove the side panels, how did you do that?

Here is a pic on what I'm talking about. Is that the route to take to wire?
