Likely a sensor or electrical glitch, not a mechanical failure since it shifted fine. Common causes are a faulty sensor or low battery voltage. Get it to the dealer soon to be safe, but it's probably not catastrophic.

 

Thanks, that's what i was thinking battery voltage at 11.3/4 Ill get the gearbox oil changed anyway and go from there also think I have a leaking water pump, What can I say got a BMW with 80k not a single problem

 

I bet it’s the battery. Unlike older cars, newer models are extremely sensitive to voltage since they rely heavily on a steady current, so any fluctuation or drop can trigger a chain reaction that affects several other electrical components.

 

We recommend replacing the battery every 2-3 years. Check the E-gear/ISR fluid level.

Did it pop into neutral?

 

First culprit is likely the battery, or could be something minor like the shift fork sensor
