Noticed the other day fluid on floor by right rear wheel. Installed new
egear lines a couple of months ago. Car has been on lift and not driven
in a month. Stopped leaking and started up and drove no issue and leaks.
I was going to say maybe an oring or some other rubber part had shrunk from the lack of driving or perhaps from cold weather, causing it leak a little. But then driving it causes it to expand again. Somewhat like our center coolant hose lines (I've now got two new hose clamps to take care of that problem). It's not too uncommon for cars that don't get driven regularly, for hoses and gaskets and "shrink" until they are driven again and then it stays expanded for weeks.
The thing is, I thought all egear hoses use banjo bolts, vs. rubber/oring connectors, so that would be weird that it would leak anything.
Any chance that leak was from a prior egear hose issue that finally made its way down to the floor?
When the line went fluid everywhere and cleaned engine bay . New lines and copper washers. Funny thing drove car put away in heated garage (Kansas) for winter and
leaked some fluid on floor about size of gallon can lid. Maybe it was over filled. I guess I will find out this spring.
I have noticed that the fluid reservoir can fluctuate a lot. When I topped mine up to the correct level, it leaked (overflowed) 3 times. Each time a little less. The last time was about 3 weeks after the top up too. It has not leaked since. On the top of the egear reservoir is an overflow hole. See if that is wet around there. If that is the case it simply had a little too much fluid.
When you lose pressure in the e-gear battery (the bomb-like black spherical pressure storage device in front of the right rear wheel) it lets fluid back into the fluid reservoir. Some pressure will stay in the battery for a long time, but if it drops completely, such as when setting for an extended time, the fluid level may rise enough to overflow the reservoir. You start driving the car again and keeping pressure in the battery and it stops leaking. That could be an explanation.
If you see a leak, try to check the fluid level in the reservoir without letting the e-gear pump start (have to think about that). If the pump starts, it will draw down the level and you wont know if it had overflowed.
