Dead Battery in Brand New Urus

We received our new 2021 Urus two weeks ago and had it down at the detail shop getting wrapped with Xpel Ultimate Plus and ceramic coated. Well the shop called and said the battery was dead. When we purchased the Urus the salesman said to be careful with the batteries because those Lithium Ion batteries run around $5,000 to replace. any ideas if this battery can be recharged with the trickle charger? It goes to energy save mode because there is less than 2v according to the manual. Need some suggestions and thanks. Nice to be on the forum.

yes your battery can be saved
lithium batteries protect themselves from completely being dead.
What you will need to do is trickle charge it for 24 hours. If the charger does not "wake' the battery, you will need to shock it awake with a power surge. Many lithium batteries come with a jump built into it.
I had my battery go to the dark side, what i did was unorthodox but worked. I hooked up the trickle charger and used a regular charger at the same time for about five minutes. this woke up the battery.
Try trickling it for 24 hours, should be fine

Same thing happened to me. Urus factory charger/maintainer does NOTHING once battery gets below the cutoff (ie. the status light keeps going off). I used a portable booster pack (per dealer instruction) to get it going without any issue. For the faint of heart, just call Lambo roadside for assistance.

Lambo dealers seem notorious for delivering the Urus with low battery (especially after being on ship for 5-6 weeks).

@topcarbon and @thomba... Thank you both so much for the quick replies. I went down to the wrap company tonight with a charger and we did as you said. Plugged the trickle charger in and then attached the portable battery charger under the hood. Turned it on and heard a small snap and the car "came alive". I felt like a doctor with paddles yelling "clear". Took the portable charger off and then started the Urus right up. The trickle charger went up to next to the top indicator so we are going to leave it on overnight. I can't thank you enough for the quick help. Whew. I appreciate it.

Question for you guys. If you aren’t going to run it for a few weeks or even 2 months, would you leave a battery tender , trickle charger plugged in?

Right now I drive it at least every weekend but that may change. I think Lamborghini gave me one. If not , any recommendations ?

Just get the OE one. It’s pretty slick with magnetic connector under the hood (at least that’s the one that came on mine). Otherwise get the CTEK lipo (the Lambo one is just a relabeled ctek).

I'm betting the detailer/ppf shop left the doors open without it being on a charge for an extended period which wore out your battery. I've seen this before. Usually happens with Ferraris, Macs and others.

When I dropped the Aston off to have paint correction, full XPEL PPF, XPEL window tint and ceramic coat, I made it crystal clear that the Optimate 6 trickle charger must remain plugged in at all times unless repositioning the vehicle. Thankfully they did as instructed as the job took over a week to complete. I like the fact that the Optimate 6 can deliver up to 6 amps versus several of my other trickle chargers that only put out 1.25 amps.

I drive the Aston several times a week, but when it is in the garage the trickle charger is always plugged in. The Optimate 6 trickle charger not only keeps the battery fully charged, it also continuously monitors and tests overall battery health.

You should have received one with your Urus purchase. We connect ours on the passenger side inside the cabin of the car by the right foot area using the magnetic adapter. The door closes just fine with the cable coming out at the bottom.
What type of charger did you use?One of those battery powered jump starters?
Do you have a picture of your tender set up?

It’s one of those standard battery powered jump starters you can buy for about $100-150. I think the brand of his was Stanley. Don’t have a photo since it was his but here is a picture and link to what we used

I used this one. You have to make sure whatever booster you get has override capability. Since the Urus battery “disconnects” under 2v and the booster won’t detect it.

Thank you both I was able to get the battery out of the mode it was stuck in by shocking it with a similar charger.
Hi
Have same problem. Can someone please expand and detail how to charge and revive the battery? He just died.

Sure. Get one of these chargers shown above and attach it to the correct positive and negative points on the Urus battery. Turn on the charger unit and attempt to start the car. Don't be surprised if you hear a pop. The care should now be "alive". Take the charger unit off and you should be good to go. I would leave it running for a while or take it for a drive. You should then keep the factory supplied charger on it after you turn it off when you return home.

Thanks for this. Bought ours CPO but no charger. Decided to get this on even though it's daily driven based on the things I've heard.
Can you use a standard CTEK MSX 5.0 trickle charger on Urus / STO batteries ? or do you need a specific charger for lithium?

Does the STO use the same battery as the Urus? I seriously doubt it. I certainly can’t use my Huracan tender on my Urus and vise versa. I don’t know which CTEK does lipo, but I know they do have one. Didn’t you get a charger/tender with the vehicle(s)?
