Maintenance is an important consideration because unlike so many members on this forum I cannot, how shall I say, turn a wrench. @Kratos is the transformer King......my skills are best suited for hanging Lamborghini flags in my garage. If I had some skills I would consider one of the older models but alas I have none.
I live in Pennsylvania so not sure what the laws are here but we’ve been together a long time and been through major ups and downs health wise and financially over the years. Murci is definitely the dream but maintenance costs is a little scary to me.
I think if you can work on your car yourself you minimize the risk. But if your mechanically handicapped like me there no way I would touch one. I always sell my cars before the warranty is up for a reason.

I started working on cars because I couldn't afford to have someone else do it. I built my first Porsche when I was a poor college student. Now I weight if I want to do it against my inherent laziness and pay someone else. Currently I am working with my son on his project car which involves a lot of welding, also my bike is apart because it has an ignition problem. So I would buy a car that needs work.

I would love to work on my cars if I had the time in the space. I’m still too busy with work and by the time the weekend comes around I just want to play and have fun.
So many horror stories about maintenance cost..in reality, and I should know if anybody does...most of that is total BS AND/OR caused by the fact that the owners let them sit and root away garage queens. Then they start to fall apart..you use it and exercise it like any machine should and they will be trouble free. MY 670-4SV is over 30K miles, my 01 Diablo 6.0SE over 50K miles. I bought both brand new, the only owner AND BOTH still on the original OEM clutch. Other then tires and fluids along with the 15K and 30K and 45K service have niot had ONE issue on my diablo. My SV the side passanger mirror failed in the first month of owner ship and was replaced under warranty JUST drive it all you can and enjoy it
@RoyToy2003so65, not sure I am aware of horror stories but rather concern about repair costs being part of the equation when buying an older model Lamborghini. I agree, though, that many of the repair issues could very well be a consequence of people letting the cars slowly decay from lack of use. Whether we are talking about the human body or any machine for that matter, inactivity is suboptimal.
I have spent between $70,000 and $80,000 maintaining my Jalpa over 14 years. Much of it was repairing past neglect, but a good deal of it was maintenance and repairs. I fix minor things myself so it would be worse if I hired it all out. I think a pre 90s Lamborghini is a different beast. Neglect, storage rot, age, and normal wear and tear play a major role in a car more than 30 years old.... but they were not put together as well as they are in more recent history.

It was a 914, I was looking for a car to work on and the wife suggested a 914, I was like why not.
I knew nothing about Porsche's at the time and there were no youtube how-to's, but I was young and dumb enough and plowed thru. I should look for a pic of the finished product. My second Porsche was a 930, that was a jump.

I must be a little off. I love to work on them .It is so relaxing and stress relieving. The more difficult and complicated the better. I think working a difficult problem lets me forget all the weeks problems and just focus on that. I started wrenching on engines at 7 so must have been something I was born with. My Dad knew nothing about fixing things. I am a self taught builder, developer, electrician , plumber and fabricator. I love to learn new things but later get bored once I am skilled. I think learning new things is very rewarding. (Makes you money also) I really love the challenge of doing something no one has ever done. (Currently I am building a 10K RPM Jalpa and an LS7 Hummer). I think my next project might be a submarine. I was going to build a plane or helicopter but my wife will not fly in small planes. No point in making something that will not get used. If I build a sub, I can take offshore and explore reefs and look for sunken treasure.(She can stay on shore) There are lots of sunken boats in lakes within a couple of hundred miles. The only problem is trying to find plans for a homebuilt sub. They do not exist as far as I have found. ( That means lots of research and trial and error) There are lots of experimental aircraft so why not subs. They are actually pretty simple.
I think everyone should stretch their boundries. They may find things they really love and never knew. Lee
Lee, you are not the typical Exotic car owner. I really admire your ambition, but I get tired just hearing about some of your projects. I certainly do agree, we all need to test our bonderies now and then, it keeps life interesting.

Same as mine too. I watched him used a solder once in my life and that was it 🤣 And when I was a kid, I watched him almost killed our electrician by touching him when he worked on electrical stuff ungrounded Luckily they both survived. If the world goes down these skills that we have will come in handy.
