I've been watching the used Aventador market since early 2020 here in Canada. It has been a serious ride and I'm curious what other Canadians (both owners and soon to be owners like myself) think of this market and what has happened over the past 2-3 years. IF you live in the US and want to chime in on this, that is fine but please keep in mind all prices discussed here are CAD. I find the US market to be even higher than the Canadian market once you convert the USD to CAD. So it hardly makes sense to import a US car into Canada, especially if its a 2018 or newer as you will get hit with the stupid 10% luxury tax.
So here is what I can't wrap my head around, in early 2021 (Jan-Feb), I found a 2015 Aventador Roadster with all the goodies (full carbon inside and out and more) and with only 5000km, the dealership was asking $390k (CAD). I inquired about it and I was told they would let it go for approx. $360k. TODAY, the exact same car (but 2 1/2 years later) is asking approx. $500k. This is a tough pill to swallow for me personally both because its more than $100,000 more 2 years later and because $500k is approaching the original MSRP 2015. I am Aventador obsessed but there is no shot I would pay near MSRP for a 8-9 year old Lamborghini. For context, at the same time (early 2021) a base model 2012 Aventador Coupe was approx. $275k - today, that same 2012 coupe is also about $100,000 more.
Now all that said, these are just asking prices and we have no way of knowing what they are actually selling for. What I do notice is that the cars are not moving much, its almost the same Aventadors sitting on autotrader.ca for the past 6-12 months, a few come and go but many are still there for a long time now. Some of the new cars being posted seem to be asking a little less so I think we are starting to see a drop in prices and that will surely continue over the winter months and I believe even into Spring of 24 as we have not seen the worst of this economy yet in my opinion.
What are your thoughts?
ps: I am now shifting my focus on finding a 2018-2019 Aventador S Roadster as I think the facelift is a big upgrade in many ways. So if you are selling one or know of one available or becoming available, let me know!
