Hey guys,

Love my e-gear G but also miss the manual shifting experience since selling my last Viper.

Am thinking hard about a conversion to manual. I have a great shop in mind that will do it and am about to schedule it.

Are there any Phoenix-area manual G owners (pre-LP) that would be willing to let me try one out before I take the plunge?

And yes, some will say to just sell the e-gear and get a manual, but I love mine too much to sell. It's set up perfectly and don't want to take a chance on another one. I will have this one for life so am not worried about resale at all, even though I think that conversions will actually add value.

Let me know!

Thanks, Drew

Drew,

Contact HadleyG, he has a sweet gated 06..may take you for a ride in it

Also who's gonna do the conversion? Dallas performance has done a few but it's expensive..around 20k

Toolie - thanks for the info. I sent PM's to you and HadleyG. Hopefully he'll let me go for a quick joy ride......

Dallas Performance quoted me $25K which is ridiculous. They told me that they just finished a conversion for a Phoenix owner recently, so maybe he's online to share the result. I'm sure it was done well.

I'll share more details about my shop once I get into the project, but they will do it for about much less using new OEM parts. I've worked with them before and they are awesome.

Also will sell my removed e-gear parts for credit, so the overall project will be reasonable.

Cool, so around $15k much better. My guy at HBI was offering this before for a limited time, but that price is very good.

Bummer...no responses yet for me to blatantly joy ride someone else’s 6-speed...lol.

And so it begins... laid down the deposit to convert and will be getting her done. Will take pics along the way and document the build. This is going to be a blast.

I got your back. When do you want to drive it? I had left toe surgery on Friday to remove a broken stingray barb that was unknowingly lodged in my bone for the last three weeks (you can't make this stuff up), but the boot comes off tomorrow so i should be back to three-pedal action within a few days. Name the time!

Sorry to hear about that stingray hit... ouch.

Thanks for the offer and will definitely take you up on it! Figure you may be ready to roll by this weekend? I’m in the Gilbert area.

Big shout out to Scott for letting me take his gated G out on the open roads this AM!

Felt awesome to row through the gears and get the feel of a manual G for the first time. Makes me even more excited to get mine back from conversion...probably another 2-3 weeks.

Thanks again Scott, and take care of that foot!

Well damn. Looks like I was late to the party. Glad you were able to meet up with Scott. I stopped by the chandler cars and coffee last weekend but may have missed you. Drew you and I chatted last month there briefly. I have the yellow manual g. Once you get it back from Dallas, you, Scott and I should go for a cruise. I’m in the chandler / ocotillo area.

Sounds great! Am thinking it will take another 2 weeks for the conversion to be completed. Can't wait to take it out on the road with you guys! :headbang:

So are you converting to RWD also?
Did that a couple of months ago. Need to get rid of all of the leftover pieces in my garage... lol.

I'm glad you took my advice on that! (rwd conversion) I still think it's one of the best mods you can do to these cars. Easily reversible, but you'd never go back, right?
Yes, it was pretty much the consensus on the forum that 2WD was the way to go! Shout out to Guillermo (DreamCarWorkshop) for getting her done!

Rear wheel drive and manual best of both worlds!
Got that right. Can't wait to get it back on the road!

The control you have with a manual and the way the car feels with RWD and how it reacts is simply awesome! The fun meter will be pegged!

Scott is yours converted to rwd too? I'm still awd for the purity of the car but would be interested to see why so many prefer the conversion.

Props to you for taking on this project and getting her done to 6 speed! I thought long and hard of doing that originally to my performante that I had and in the end decided against it, sold her and just bought a 6 speed LP G!

She has also since left my stable ... but if I still had her I would of definitely invited you over for a drive. - I'm happy you got to ride in Scotts - great dude.

Is it a local shop in town (Phoenix area) doing the conversion? Manual and RWD is the way to go on these cars.

Yes, Scott is a great guy. Not too many people will invite them to their garage and allow them to drive their toy around town!

A local shop is doing the conversion - Highline European in Scottsdale. Kyle (owner) has started the disassembly and ordered all parts. Gearbox on the slow boat from Italy now but will be here any day. Shooting to complete by first week of December, before the Barrett-Jackson crowd rolls in.

Kyle is accessing the pedal area by removing the left lower dash, and will also be refinishing it to “eliminate” the Reverse button hole. Will also be replacing the steering column pieces so that no residual paddle “holes” remain. Lots of detail work involved afterward.

I will take more pics along the way so that I can share progress of the build.

Stay tuned!
