I've used Shell gas for decades now in every car we've owned. I recently noticed that one of my local Shell stations converted to a Circle K gas station. No big deal until last night I stopped at my go-to Shell station and above the pump was a sign that stated Coming Soon - Circle K Gas!! What!! There is another Shell I can go to but they're always more expensive and a bit more out of the way. I'd love to hear who you've trusted with your petrol purchases outside of Shell. I went to Shell after learning about Top Tier gas and guess need to see how Circle K makes the cut or not. Thanks in advance!

I typically go out of my way for Wawa. I can use ApplePay so I don't have to worry about card skimmers, and they do such a huge volume it seems like a lower chance of shady stuff going on with the tanks, etc. Haven't had an issue thus far. I just wish they offered ethanol free in 91+, but I do use it for my WaveRunner.

That being said, a super long time ago I used to use one particular shell station and kept all my receipts. Ultimately had a fuel filter clogged with fiberglass, showed the receipts, they paid for the repairs. I would be loyal to a station if I thought in this day and age anyone would do what's right after such an incident, but I think those days are long gone so I stopped being loyal.

I save $1 a gallon at Costco...
Top Tier includes Costco, Chevron and others. In the Lambo I always use Chevron. Regular cars I use Costco. They are probably identical but in the Lambo I feel a little better at Chevron. Now that I think about it Costco has newer tanks and a constant supply of fresh gas so maybe Costco is better
I fill up with Costco Premium also; Top Tier fuel and always the cheapest around. If I get there early enough I never have to wait in line, otherwise the lines are 20 cars deep.

I'll have to check out Vons. I'm not familiar with that. I use the Upside app which gives you money back depending on where you go and the discount they are offering. Anyone can use my code!! RICO6555 Unfortunately, it doesn't give me a discount on any of the other Top Tier stations other than my Shell that's going Circle K. :cautious:

I'm interested to understand what octane levels you guys get in your fuels over there. We max out at 98 RON.
Even we don't understand that over here lol. In most of the southern states, you can often find octane ratings of 87, 89, and 93 which are somewhere between 4 and 6 points lower than the equivalent RON as the method of averaging is different, so there isn't a 1:1 ratio. So I believe our 87 would be lower than the typical European gas, which I've heard often starts at 95 RON (closer to our 89-90).

Most pumps here tend to start at 87, offer a pointless 89 for an upcharge mostly just to attract people who think paying a bit more for a couple octane points does something when there are no cars here that need more than 87 but less than 91, and then you have the "premium" option for far higher price with cleansers and other goodies which will typically be 91 or 93. There are plenty of cars that require 91 but few that require 93, so some stations go straight to 93 if they only want three tanks in the ground, but others will offer lots of options, again, probably as an upsell strategy. Wawa for example, where I live, often offers 87, 89, 91, 93, and ethanol-free 89. In more northern states and out west, I often don't see 93, and sometimes have seen as low as 85.

If you know where to look here you can sometimes find a station that will carry ethanol-free gas in all octane ratings. Additionally, some stations sell "race gas" with octane ratings up to 99-103 range. Of course, people who have cars that don't need that will put it in anyway for 'more power', and proceed to overheat.

Oh my, I would have the same thoughts, as I prefer top tier fuel for my "nice" cars.
Inconvenient, yet I think the answer is you will have to drive farther to find your preferred fuel station.

An out of the box thing option?
55 gallons drums of fuel delivered to your residence/ garage?

Best of luck wished to you.

Hmmmmm...that's interesting. Are there any cost savings or is simply convenience and the ability to get exactly what you want?

When I used to race cars the guys that maintained my track car did this. VP would just drop drums off at their shop. It was much cheaper to get race gas that way than at the track. I suspect unless you're using a lot of fuel though, getting regular unleaded delivered in that manner would probably not come out ahead due to costs related to the delivery, and then you have a stinky and fire danger fuel drum in your garage.

I wish I could do this for my boat though; the price of fuel at marine docks is a nightmare now with the price increases. I just don't think I could easily roll a 450 pound barrel from street through my yard down the dock to the boat easily enough to make it anywhere close to worth the effort.

Anyone using race gas? If so please share your experience.
Unless you're running a TT setup with custom ECU, no one should be putting octane above 93 in a normal Lamborghini. There's a very bad misconception about octane and horsepower, when all it will really do is heat the car up more, possibly to the point of overheating. When I used to race cars it never failed that you'd see street cars in the HPDE groups overheating all weekend when people would put race gas in.

Ethanol-free on the other hand, that's worth doing if you can find it with the proper octane rating, which is becoming increasingly difficult these days. I can still get it at 89 for my power tools and pressure washer, but have not been able to find a local station carrying it in 91+ for a long time.

Its quite different down here - the lowest we can get is 91 and the "top" tier is 98. I haven't had any issues running 98 in any of my cars and most I've have in the past state 98 is required so I'd say there are different engine tunes depending on region and fuel availability.

Price also went up big time. Now at 2.37/Liter, It costs me between $250-300$ a week.
Everyone here is worried about fuel prices at $2AUD/Litre - looks like we have it cheap!

I think you’re RON though, so your 98 is like our 93, and 91 closer to 87 range, so I think we’re talking about the same things 😀

Yeah it helps a little. Since we buy our groceries at Vons, you get Vons points. Every hundred points is $.10 off a gallon. Max you can redeem at a time is I think $.70. You can redeem Vons points at Vons gas stations, Chevron, and Texaco. Not sure if there are any others.
