Car manufactures make the cars the customers buying new cars demand. That鈥檚 not necessary the kind of people writing comments in a forum wants. In most cases car manufacturers can鈥檛 survive on people writing comments in a forum.
Today used exotic sport cars with manual transmissions are sold for a lot of money, because you can鈥檛 buy that kind of cars anymore. But the manufactures stopped making them because the people who bought new exotic cars didn鈥檛 want them. The same with air cooled 911鈥檚. 25 years ago Porsche wasn鈥檛 hardly selling any cars. The air cooled concept was seen as old fashioned and power output was restricted by the two valve setup. But today these used cars are sold for fantasy money. But that doesn鈥檛 help Porsche 25 years ago. So they started making water cooled cars.

Porsche went water cooled also to meet emission requirements. That is also the major push for electric cars.

They could have passed the emission legislation of 25 years ago with a air cooled car as well. The cooling concept doesn鈥檛 really affect the emissions. It鈥檚 the exhaust after treatment system that decides your emission level.

You are half right. You can make up your own opinion but not your own facts.

Why did Porsche go water-cooled?
"Because Porsche wanted to keep up with the competition, meet tougher emission standards, and yield better performance and engineering feats, all engines in Porsche models switched to a water-cooled design."

"In order to to produce horsepower you must produce heat. Water cooled engines can transfer the damaging heat faster and better than air cooled engines thus allowing for higher power outputs. A side benefit of liquid cooled engines is engine noise reduction and also tighter temperature control can be maintained helping control of emissions easier."

"At the time tighter and tighter emissions, noise and fuel economy regulations were putting the pinch on air-cooling."

Yes, and the inside information from the engineers doing the engine development was power reasons. You were not there....

There is much more to a car than the 0-60 time. Only those that are insecure would ever feel or even think that way.
The tired refrain of every guy who has an old dated slow car. Your car may be newer, faster and look better but my car has 鈥渟oul鈥. And can play 8 track tapes.

^^To each their own but I also like great sound and an impressive 0 to 60 stat as well. To me the power/0 to 60 times are an important parameter of sports cars.
