Afternoon, i was hoping someone could help me with a question. I have the steel engine cage re enforcement and i was wondering if i could take this out to have it re finished. Its oxidized from the heat obviously and a very small area of coating coming off. Anyone have reccomendations on how to have it re finished, and also from what i understand and im not 100 percent sure, can this cage only be removed with the car lifted with the weight off of the wheels or is that not true? If so can every part of the cage be removed all together. Thank You
Did you have to remove the brace with the car lifted? That's where I'm confused, I read that, that's how it has to be removed. Thanks buddy I appreciate it
No. You don’t need to lift. You remove from top. Loosen the brace bolts attached to frame
It looks harder than it is. Once bolts on frame
Are removed the eye bolts come out easy. Good luck
I seem to remember someone with a roadster getting a dealer quote that added 4 hours to the work for remove the bracing. That did sound ridiculous to me.
Great. Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. Also is it better to powder coat or some other method of refinishing to eliminate that heat fade look above the engine. Seems to fog out the same way everything from heat. Just seeing what the best maintenance free method would be. Thanks
4hours probably includes a bunch of coffee
breaks. if you have basic wrenching skills you will be fine.
Powder coat. Don’t paint. A reputable powder coat shop can get the job done. I paid under $300 for it
