I’m not sure what this means either - on mine I just connect to Bluetooth in the normal way, I don’t use any AUX… the Car play is also wireless.

Why do you say Bluetooth is through AUX? Since Bluetooth is a digital protocol, I would assume (maybe wrongly so) that the input path for the audio signal of a device connected over Bluetooth is purely digital.
Then, if we are speaking about the output path, this unit seems to support both RCA analog ports (from their internal DAC, which is usually crap), and digital ports (coaxial and S/PDIF Toslink). So with the right amp, it should be possible to have the audio signal of a Bluetooth device integrally processed in digital, from the source and all the way to the amp.
WIth all that being said, I am by no means an expert on the topic. So if I have missed something here, please do tell.
Yeah I thought the same thing - they are all from the same manufacturer and just being sold by re sellers.Yeah, I've seen most of them going for 1500+ USD. One even going for 3k! Quite a crazy difference. No idea why these guys are selling it this cheap... but hey, no questions asked!
In theory, it should support Carplay. That's what the ad says. I am convinced that all these units are basically the same one, produced by the same manufacturer, and then sold by all the resellers we see in Aliexpress.
About the surround, I have not decided yet. But it will come down to either wrapping it in leather, or painting it in matte black, so that it matches the rest of the dashboard. Most likely, what will end up happening is that I'll paint it in matte black as a temporary measure, and then use some time to persuade myself into paying an upholsterer to wrap that in leather (and potentially also the center tunnel trim parts, where the gear stick and the handbrake lever are).
Also, I found that there are some universal stick-on bluetooth steering wheel controls. I might look into getting one of those, and sticking it somewhere in the steering column trim, where it is not too visible. Like that, I'll get proper volume controls.
What I mean is that the bluetooth attaches to the stock stereos auxiliary input which results in audio quality loss. So essentially it’s like using one of those Bluetooth adapters for cars that don’t come with Bluetooth from the factory. I’m not sure why these screen manufacturers choose to do Bluetooth this way.Not sure I understand this correctly, but I am definitely interested in understanding it.

I’m not sure this is the case - as it also connects wireless to the apple car play, which is assume is blue tooth? I have an aftermarket sound system and it sounds just as good as the old pioneer head unit I had in there before. What I mean is that the bluetooth attaches to the stock stereos auxiliary input which results in audio quality loss. From what I have been able to read around the internet, Carplay is a mix of both: it uses Bluetooth to establish an initial connection between the two devices (i.e. headunit and phone), and then based on that connection, it enables the two devices to establish a second connection over WiFi for the actual data transfer. WiFi allows a much higher bandwidth than Bluetooth.I’m not sure this is the case - as it also connects wireless to the apple car play, which is assume is blue tooth? That’s exactly why I was so frustrated when I bought a 10” android screen for my Mercedes only to learn that is fed the Bluetooth through the aux port. Maybe something to do with the factory amp settings or something I don’t know but I was pissed about it. On the forums over there they were discussing something along the lines that all screen upgrade manufacturers do it this way, I hope that’s not the case here. It’s all speculation I have no clue if this Tesla screen is done that way or not. From what I have been able to read around the internet, Carplay is a mix of both: it uses Bluetooth to establish an initial connection between the two devices (i.e. headunit and phone), and then based on that connection, it enables the two devices to establish a second connection over WiFi for the actual data transfer. About Bluetooth being connected over the AUX input, I am not saying this isn't true, but I'd be highly surprised. That would mean the internal Bluetooth adaptor would need to convert the audio signal from digital to analog with an internal DAC, before this is fed to the AUX port. And then this analog signal would need to be processed by the headunit's signal processor, so that it's converted back to digital before it can actually be played by the headunit. It sounds too complicated for no good reason, especially when an off the shelf USB bluetooth dongle allows a full digital input path at virtually no cost.
With that being said, I know there are some Carplay boards that can be installed in OEM headunits without Carplay, where the audio is fed through the AUX port. That's the case, for example, with the ISUDAR board, which plugs to the Porsche PCM 3.1. When plugging this board to the headunit, the video signal from the board is shown when selecting TV input, and the audio from the board is also reproduced by the headunit. The audio, however, is fed as an analog signal through AUX, which results indeed in quality loss (mostly due to the lousy chinese-made DACs used in these boards). This is the only case where I've heard about something using AUX as audio input channel.
Guess what? The seller from Aliexpress contacted me to tell me that the listing price that I paid for the unit was wrong, and if I am interested to pay the difference. I knew it was too good to be true!Ha ha ha - that’s really good I paid $800 for mine!! Did it include apple car play?
Did you decide on what to do on the surround?
Let me dig it out now and I will drop it in.Guess what? The seller from Aliexpress contacted me to tell me that the listing price that I paid for the unit was wrong, and if I am interested to pay the difference. I knew it was too good to be true!
Do you happen to have the link to the one you got? $800 seems to be quite a good price (most are 1k+).

Thanks a lot. I am still waiting for the other guys to reply. Told them I had to pay FX and payment fees to buy the unit, and now they want to call of the deal... so all those fees would be on me. We'll see what they say. Here is where I bought it.
I had the same thing they wouldn’t honour this price was a lot of back and forth - they said this price was for an old model that isn’t produced anymore.
