      No, you want to connect to a fuse that powers on/off with car so detector turns on/off with car. It's a very simple mod, don't tap into a wire, get one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009K6U582/ref=psdc_6355937011_t2_B011I9QZX2 and then plug it into the location for power outlet. Very easy to run the cord under trim to fuse panel in passenger side footwell.



      I also just did my new Lotus, really does only take 15 minutes and easy to do.

      wow that's really helpful and a very clean install. Do you know which extended wire I need? Right now I have the flat 12 foot escort cord:

      But I assume I'll need a different one. As far as the trimming goes. Where did you tuck the wire?
