Default Dealer Refuses Ppi And Test Drive. Thoughts?

RE the George Evans 1983 Lamborghini Jalpa vin *12038*

i am very disappointed. someone please tell me how i am in the wrong with cash in hand and airline tickets at the ready, only to be told that i not only cannot have a PPI done offsite on this car, but that no one can drive it for " insurance reasons ". NOBODY BUYS THESE CARS SIGHT UNSEEN WITH NO PPI.

NOBODY.
i refuse to believe that i am bieng unreasonable requesting a basic inspection at my expense and a 15 to 20 minute test drive with a employee of the shop.

who the heck would purchase a 23 year old Jalpa that has NO TOOLS, OR SERVICE HISTORY , and is missing stuff, like the cover over the alternator keeping stuff off the wide belt and pulleys. the spare and hold down straps are missing. no record of a valve adjustment having ever been done.

my request:

my name is Michael M(edited), i have spoken with George Evans a few times on
the
phone. i was
told that he would be able to send off some pics to me of the car. i would
also
like a
brief description of what the comes with the car , and what the car needs
overall. i am
exempt from emissions, ect and am looking for a good driver quality
Lamborghini , not a
show car. i will have to pay a state tax penalty of 6% since the car is
registered to the
dealership and not an individual. i assume the car to have a clean, clear
title?
>
> i have cash, and i am prepared to fly out at my expense to see the car. i
will require a
PPI to be done at another facility close by. please advise.

> thank you.

hi, if you want to come and look at it, fine, i will supply you with a lift and tools to inspect it as long as you need.
me or tim can take you a ride. i can let you drive it on the lot.
our insurance will not alow test drives of exotics on the road, period.
if you are really a player for this car then you should have allready done your homework on the car.
we have been here 30 + years, we have a very good reputation, we do not "hide things",
i am suprised you would even say that about me.
looks like we are going to list it on ebay this coming weekend as we are still very busy.

george

i am sorry to rant. but no matter how good your reputation is, not expect someone to just fly in and " look at the car on a lift yourself" with no PPI, no comprssion test and no test drive is riduluous.

thoughts? opinions

yea, but do it a different way. Let them put it on Ebay and just sit back & watch the action, you can even ask questions while it's on there and see if they make the questions public.

The car you describe is worth about $18K imo.

Thumbs down

I agree with YellowMurci, but in a more subtle way.

Im surprised, seems like the guy has a good reputation even on this board most members hold him highly, perhaps someone here could put in a good word for you with him. Perhaps he didnt UNDERSTAND EXACTLY what you meant. Regardless, car doesn't sound INCREDIBLE, let it auction on EBAY probably in your best interest...

Hope those plane tickets are refundable... Sorry to hear about the situation.

Guy probably didnt get laid last night, and is in some sort of a MOOD ?!?!

i wish him luck in his ebay auction. all i wanted was to make sure the car was a good driver, i am not looking for a show car, and have owned and maintained a 85 Jalpa, a 74 Urraco, 2 Porsche 911's and 3 carb Ferraris. all in the last 2 years or so. i am a true gearhead, and i deal with folks who have Gulfstream Business Jets all day. i am just dumbfounded that a dealer would act this way to someone who has cash, no wife to ask, no banks to involve.

and i liked the black on black paint / interior too.

I wouldn't buy either, but I also wouldn't let you take my 23 year old Jalpa to some one else to possibly screw up. Just think how many people would want to do that. I think the dealer should have it done one time by someone with officiating paperwork, then you can inquire to whoever did it. I think if your going to throw $18K at the car as JR says, just be prepared to throw another $10K or more, otherwise you shouldn't be considering it anyway.

As far as the tools, come'on your not going to use the original tools to work on this car anyway, that has no bearing on anything.

i agree with you that i would not let just "anyone" do the PPI. they would of course have to be a top notch Lamborghini shop, not a hole in the wall repair place. all i wanted was for someone not on his payroll to look at the car and do a compression test ( not leakdown) and a normal test drive. nothing more. George wants $33,900 for the car.
the tool kit is useless, but when you are asking alot for the car, it should have the owners manual, complete tool kit, jack kit and spare. the car has the jack kit and thats all. also there is NO SERVICE HISTORY. if the car was cheap, i would not be so worried about the missing items. however, at his price point, the car should be more complete.
best,

Michael

All due respect here, but from a quick read of this post, it doesnt sound like you are telling the whole story.

What did you say to George to make him say this?
"we do not "hide things", i am suprised you would even say that about me."

He wouldnt just say that for no reason. It doesnt sound like we have the entire context of this situation.

I would love to hear both sides of this. I have to believe that Evans would make REASONABLE accomidations for a serious buyer.

My experince with Evans.. all good, he has done great work on my car. (I agree, Mike is among the best lambo mechanics around...)
