Default D&M Motorsports Glen Ellyn, IL

If I can convince of one thing, it would be to never deal with D&M. They are total rip off artists. A friend of mine recently bought a 1988 Mercedes 560 SL from them. He paid an insane amount ($22,000) which is his own fault. He has only had the car for 3 months and the car is starting to fall apart. The locks don't work, the radio doesn't work, the top is now broken and the transmission is slipping. They told him that it is such a great car that he can bring it back any time to trade up...

Well, he brought it back today. They first told him that they won't take it because it is out of season. Then they told him that they would take it back and give him $15,000 in trade...$7000.00 less than he paid, less than 3 months ago. He spent a couple hours there trying to get it straightened out and ended up leaving with the car.

Please let this be an example as to how business is done there. I again will admit that I think my friend is in the wrong also. But I do not want anyone else to have to go through the same thing. Buyer beware.

With all do respect, I am not sure why they would be categorized as a rip off artist. It sounds like your friend bought a conv't sports car in the summer and wanted to sell it in the winter, it is not uncommon for a car to be worth less at the time because of season. I personally know the staff @ D&M and they are some of the most respected people in the business. I purchased my new Z06 from them and an 360 spider last summer. But like I said, with all do repect....these forms ARE for expressing opinions.

As an enthusiast that owned 26 cars so far worth mentioning I would say it doesn't sound like they did anything unethical.
Every time i buy a sports or luxury car I try to do as much homework as possible, but who are we kidding when you see the right one its an emotional move!
As far as D & M since I am in Chicago I have been to their facility several times and altough I have not purchased anything there yet(they had more corvettes and vipers than imports) they treated me well and the pricing was understandable considering the low mile quality cars they offered.
It seemed more like a family atmosphere rather than the insanity of places like Luxury Motors........
But as far as the loss we all know if you buy a toy other than maybe a Supra or Nsx and pay up for the right one in the season you will take abeating trying to off it in the winter.
Thats just the nature of the beast!
I would say if your friend truely is unhappy with his car, have him level with the guys that sold it to him first(they seemed reasonable when i tried buying cars there) or wait until the weather breaks and sell the car outright.
By the way i had a 56k 86 560sl i owned and the top was the biggest pain in the rear to work. I finally left it down and only drove it when the weather permitted. In the cold that trans felt weird and like it was slamming into gear and when i had it checked the mechanic told me it was normal.
I wouldn't label anyone as a Ripoff Artist unless they just outright lie to people like some of the other people in chicago(wont mention names)
Good Luck All!
Stay warm!
