Quattroruote finally tested the car and got some amazing numbers. I’m pretty sure this LP640 was a normal production car, except it seems to have had a fixed rear wing. Does anyone know if the LP640 comes with the option of having a fixed rear wing? Either way it wouldn’t affect the acceleration.

The 4WD cars have an advantage at the start, but if we compare the acceleration from the 400m to the 1000m mark (approximately 120 mph-160 mph range for these cars), we can compare the in gear acceleration:

400 -1000m:
Murcielago 580 hp: 9.44s / 9.39s
Diablo GT: 9.2s
Ferrari F40: 9.05s / 8.83s
Ferrari 599 GTB: 8.9s
LP640: 8.9s


LP640 has pretty much exactly the same acceleration as the 599 GTB. Not quite as fast as the Carrera GT, but not very far behind either. Really impressive!

Notice how the 20 year old F40 can match the modern supercars in the 400-1000m acceleration. It actually was the fastest in this stretch (8.83s)! Most people don’t realize what a beast the F40 is.

Nevertheless, an impressive performance by the LP640! But can anyone explain the fixed rear wing?

Also, the test weight of the LP640 in Quattroruote was 4264 lbs (!). Motor Trend’s figure was 4046 lbs. How do you account for the 218 lbs weight difference? Do they typically include the driver with the car weight in Europe?

Pretty impressive numbers there for LP640. I guess the rear wing is more to keep it bettar on the road, i know 4WD is more than enough for it but i guess the wing would add some more stability.
