I highly doubt that DeSilva was able to redesign a car and have it mocked up in the couple months that he has been in charge. Maybe he refined it but to do that much work in a short time is unlikely!!

When I was there in July, Luc was the Head of Design. So it is completely
appropriate that the new Miura was his Pet Project. He also at the
same time was working for De'Silva. We also met two other designers that
worked for Luc, as they were discussing a design at a workstation when
we walked into the 2nd floor of Centro Stile.

So I suggest they all were probably working on the Miura and sharing
ideas. That's the way designs are done for a lot of fields.

But the design is always attributed to the Chief Designer, as it is his
leadership that made it all possible. He drives the design and he makes
sure problems are resolved. He may not solve them all himself directly.

Luc and I are also kind of design managers, different fields, but nonetheless
we were discussing the parallels in what we do. There were many. We also
discussed some of his management philosophy which he had some rather
neat ideas on.

Forgot to add - sorry.

Walter de'Silva is now the Head of Design! So the Miura is his baby!
You can see different design language than Luc's cars.

Luc is still inolved with Lamborghini as well as being Head of Design
at SEAT. But Luc is a designer at Lamborghini now. He is not Head
of Design. Walter de'Silva used to be Head of Design at SEAT.

And I might add for those of you who didn't notice - de'Silva is Italian !!
So the Head of Design at Lamborghini is now an Italian. As many of
you have suggested should be the case.

And I have no knowledge of this, but let me throw out this fun idea to
noodle on ... as long as we're paying homage to Gandini (well deserved), if
Walter did a Miura, and Luc did a Diablo, ... ??

That's a good start. Major importance they keep the Italian Heritage. Thats why we love'em, not because they're anything else.

Press release

Automobili Lamborghini Proudly Introduces the Stunning
“Lamborghini Miura Concept”

The House of the Raging Bull brings back a legendary name from the
company’s past with the breathtaking “Lamborghini Miura Concept”.
The “Lamborghini Miura Concept” will be the first Lamborghini vehicle
to be conjured from the talented pen of Walter de’ Silva, Head of
Lamborghini Design. de’ Silva’s other design responsibilities include
serving as Head of Design of Audi Group. The talented designer’s idea
for the new concept was simple: a retro-inspired look heralding back to
one of the auto world’s most famous icons, the legendary Miura.
Automobili Lamborghini anxiously begins the New Year with the highly
anticipated unveiling of the “Lamborghini Miura Concept,” a modern
interpretation of the Lamborghini Miura. Currently celebrating its 40th
Anniversary, the Miura was originally designed by Marcello Gandini
and was first publicly presented at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show by
Ferruccio Lamborghini and Nuccio Bertone.

To this day, the Miura remains one of the most beautiful cars ever
created.

The new concept model, which as of now, is strictly a concept with no
firm date set for its production launch, is the inspired creation of de’
Silva, the world-famous Italian designer. He has redesigned every aspect
of the car while remaining absolutely faithful to the original form.
The new car retains the extraordinary purity of line characteristic of the
original Miura: the designer’s intervention has been defined by refining
the contours and eliminating any superfluous detail in order to enhance
the clean, simple lines and perfectly-balanced proportions of the original
that so impassioned enthusiasts.

The restyling of the lower part of the body takes the car’s structural
strength and aerodynamic performance to new heights, without
disturbing the delicate aesthetic equilibrium.

Even the touches of contemporary styling applied to the interior, the lights,
and the wheels have been carefully measured to achieve a homogenous
design that is both timeless and immediately recognisable.
And so a true design icon is reborn.
“Over the last two years,” explains Walter de’ Silva, “I have often dreamt
of redesigning the Miura. Now, thanks to my new position at the head of
Lamborghini design and the enthusiastic support of the Lamborghini CEO,
Stephan Winkelmann, I have been able to turn that dream into a reality.”
The “Lamborghini Miura Concept” will be on show at the Lamborghini
stand at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 6th January 2006
