I'm not sorry to see him go, but am certainly concerned, like you all, about who follows.

There was nothing wrong with his designs, but they never struck me as either Italian or exotic - certainly not Lamborghini. I think with the Murci roadster he was finally starting to 'get it' - it's the only Audighini I like.

But I deeply hope they will put an Italian back in charge of design and bring back the wildness that characterized the Miura, the Countach and the Diablo and put the Bull on the supercar map.

Like if you look at a Gallardo, stop looking at the badge for a sec, it just doesnt struck you as a Lamborghini you know what I mean? Especially that concept S. The Murcielago on the other hand, you could kinda guess that's kind of a Lamborghini at least.

We need a mean looking Lamborghini man so please, let the Italians do their magic!!

So its gonna end up with some Japanese American flavor.

Whatever it is, lets hope for the best. I can't wait to see the Lagartijo.

Good riddance to Luc. He tried to take a German oven and create Italian flavor. It didn't work, none of the new Lambo's look Italian and perhaps now maybe they will.
Great cars all of them, just not Italian. They just don't have the charm.

I've been at the Lamborghini Factory the last 3 days. I'm still in Italy
in fact at this moment. WOW! WHAT A TRIP! THIS PLACE IS AWESOME !!
I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE !! Christina is an Angel ! Saw the new Gallardo
SE in production - COOL !! Murcielago's of every color and type -
assembled, disassembled, pieces, and also going like hell down the
Balboni highway - WOW !!!!!!!! - HEAVEN ||

Luc Donckerwolke granted my son, who is a design student, a short
interview yesterday at the factory. Besides being a brilliant designer,
Luc is also a GREAT guy !

We talked to him about the news of him leaving. He also asked me not to
repeat what he told us, and instead let it come out in official channels in
time. Some of it may not be final yet, possibly, too. So I will not violate
that trust.

But let me repeat here the parts that I have already seen in the news
that Luc confirmed yesterday in our conversation.

It has been announced (I've seen it in the news) that Luc's boss,
Walter deSilva, is talking over the head job at Lamborghini design.
Remember that Audi owns/runs Lamborghini !! Last I checked, Mr. Gandini
doesn't work for Audi. So personally (me talking) I don't think that angle
bears fruit. Plus I think (me talking again) Luc has been and is the right
guy for the job and has proven it!

Luc is going to head the SEAT design team of 74 or so designers. This is
a big step up for him from the much smaller staff that he leads at
Lamborghini, and I personally see this as another step in his development
as a leading designer for the Audi group. I think that his boss, Walter
deSilva, also did a stint at SEAT as chief designer.

In my opinion (me talking now), Luc is a very successful designer,
currently one of the world's best, and I think Audi sees this too, and needs
his special talents at SEAT. Also remember he works for Audi and is not an
independent designer - so he has to listen to Mr. deSilva, his boss.

You can tell that I appreciate Luc and his designs very much. So I
was worried when I read the initial reports of his leaving too.

I personally (me talking here - nobody else) think he is PERFECT for
Lamborghini at this time. I think his boss Walter deSilva also saw this
back in 1998. So I am encouraged actually that his boss is talking over
Lamborghini design.

After our talk yesterday, I will say, I am no longer worried.

So let's wait for the full situation to develop.

Currently, Luc will be attending the big Monterey show in August.
Not sure if this includes the Running of the Bulls. I'm not sure I can
tell what he will be bringing, so I won't say, but it will be COOL, from
the sounds of it !! He said I shouldn't miss it ! So now I have to make
arrangements.

We can all ask him then for further clarification on this SEAT thread.
Maybe there will be more to discuss.

Until then, Luc Donckerwolke fans, don't worry !!

Ciao !

Larry
