Post Lamborghini CEO: No Final Decision Yet On SUV, Grand Tourer

AMSTERDAM—Lamborghini has yet to make a final decision on an SUV model or a 2+2 grand tourer, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in an interview with Auto Telegraaf.

The Dutch auto-enthusiast magazine said Winkelmann did confirm plans for a rear-wheel-drive version of the Lamborghini Gallardo that would be lighter and less expensive than the all-wheel-drive model.

Winkelmann also addressed concerns about cannibalization between the Audi and Lamborghini brands, especially in the light of Audi's announcement about its R8 supercar. He said Lamborghini will remain the top marque in the Volkswagen group.

What this means to you: Winkelmann's remarks seem to confirm speculation that the Audi R8 may be priced lower than most supercars, so that it won't step on the toes of sister-brand Lamborghini.

It would have been great 2yrs ago, but now is a little late since the SUV trend is coming too a close. The next hot trend is four door coupes and i would love to see Lambo produce a four door Panamera competitor.

Thats trully the direction they shouold take to keep up with market if thats what they are trying to do.

What market?

Lamborghini lovers always have and always will buy 2 door Lambos. No need for 4 doors.

In profit wise, Thats what Audi is for. Im sure they're not scared of their profit.

I read somewhere, that Porsche was looking for a partner for the Panamera
and that VW was thought to be the best bet !

I don't think that is true, as far as VW owning Porsche.

I believe that Porsche is a stand alone company, in that no other
company owns them.

However, at least one recent leader of VW is a major shareholder
in Porsche (Piech). But that doesn't mean that VW as a company is a major
shareholder in Porsche.

But I agree that Porsche has close ties with VW. Thus the angle
that if VW helps with the Panamera, Lambo may get a version of it.

Exclamation Who Owns Porsche?

That's correct, Porsche is basically the last stand-alone exotic car manufacturer. They staved offbeing purchased many years ago when they had severe financial problems before the Boxster saved them. They co-operate with VW on research and sometimes closely in production (Cayenne & Toureg).

Re: the new Miura, I believe it will slot between the Gallardo and the Murci, with the Roadster remaining as the flagship and most exclusive model.

I'm gonna laugh at lambo-lovers if they do this. They totally will be destroying lambos standards. The LM002 was different because it was for the military(well at first anyway), but mass production for the public?? No way.

I find it distressing that, they are even considering either, they will lose so much credibility, and it's not like there's any call for it, after all they'll only be competing with their owners.
I think Audi should leave Lamborghini alone or (if it's solely Lamborghini's decision) force them to stay a respectable supercar company.

Anyway, first post and regretfully I fall into the 'hoping to soon own a Lambo' category.

Been drifting around the forums for a few days reading and enjoying what you all have to say.
