I've been waiting to post my experiences with the Velos tune on my 2008 Gallardo Spyder because I wanted to put at least 250 miles on the car in various driving conditions night/day cool vs. hot high humidity vs. lower humidity short drives vs. 2hr cruise. I have no affiliation with Velos just a local guy and car freak this was my first experience with them. So here it goes 300 miles later and many smiles
First of all Omar , Kenny and Jean were very helpful professional and not pushy at all. They answered all my questions and showed me everything they were going to do before proceeding. Honestly a big part of the decision for me was that they were local and I was able to see their shop and what they do. After meeting with Jean my impressions of what a "Tune" has completely changed> Please excuse my terminology here but this is how what I saw in layman's terms: what I originally thought is that they would do is to basically "upload" a new program or version on the ECUs which I guess some tuners do and it shows up as such when you go to the Lambo dealer. What Velos does is first backup the files on your ECUs to their system because according to Jean every car is different even from the factory. Then they analyze different files such as fuel maps torque maps and such then modify them to allow the car to make more power within a specific range while still retaining the safety maps and parameters. The ECU file name and version stays the same after these modifications and car can be reverted to original specs on the day you brought the car/ECU in at any time. While Jean is doing this his computer screens look like the "Matrix" he obviously knows what he's doing and has done a lot of research and is well versed with these tools.
Bottom line from the start the car feels much more lively and responsive with better throttle response and much more "torqy" if that makes sense. Im not sure how much power the car makes now but its enough for me right now since my last cars had over 800HP not much else is going to feel like that unless I go TT. One positive thing is the car seems true to its original characteristics in every way with no negative tendencies that is very driveable no jerkiness smooth idle no more backfires than usual or roughness at any RPM
A few more things I have to mention from the start you can see that these guys pay A LOT of attention to detail. Their showroom/waiting room is immaculate and and well appointed the shop is extremely clean and organized which to me says a lot about these guys. Also on the day I brought the car to Velos I showed up 2 hours late due to unforeseen circumstances rather than rush to do finish my car at my request Kenny gave a ride home 42 miles away in crazy rush hour traffic without any complaints and even offered to come pick me up the next day! (that's almost 100 miles for him) They also completely detailed my car for FREE. Finally Jean contacted me several times after the tune to make sure that I was satisfied. So overall the experience was excellent and I have no regrets and would recommend these guys to anyone that's passionate about their cars. These guys obviously care about their customers and don't seem like they're just out to make a few quick bucks.
