First post here and I'm looking at an 04 with eGear. I'm coming off a 360 with the F1 transmission. A Lamborghini friend of mine says avoid the eGear at all costs, that it's full of problems and expensive fixes. I know the same was true with the early Ferrari F1's, but people have managed to find cheaper sources of hydraulic pumps, etc.
Should I avoid the eGear on an early Gallardo and hold out for a car with 3 pedals? |

I use e-gear on my 06 Gallardo SE and have never had any problem with it.

From what I understand, e-gear has an actuator ($10k-ish?), pump ($500-ish?), and shift rods (few hundred $$$?). I'm sure there are other parts involved to complete the system, but these 3 parts seem to be areas of most concern.
Most dealer take the replacement route, few dealers suggest the rebuild route. I believe there's a fellow G owner from Oklahoma on fchat that has found sources for these parts or for rebuilding these parts that make owning e-gear more palatable. For the Porsche guy, e-gear to me is akin to the 996 M96 engine risk. The guys on rennlist will tell you to not worry about it and just enjoy your 996. I dread the day that I encounter e-gear issues, but in the meantime, I'm loving every second of it!
