BTW, how much extra are folks here tipping to have it parked out in front with an extra eye on it? Let's say Valet is $5, how much extra is warranted?

It all depends on the situation for me, how long ill be parking. If it's for a longer period of time I give the manager of the valet $20 to leave the G out front. If it's something relatively quick ill tip $10. Most importantly he keeps his eyes on the car and makes sure no one clowns around with it. One time there was a couple who was taking pics and the wife almost sat on the boot of my car (I dont understand the phenomenon of this) and the valet employee kicked them away.

I usually give them $20 and keep my keys. One guy wanted to hold the keys "in case he needed to move it."

no.

$20 for me and never leave the keys. if they need it moved they can come and get me. Just fought this battle yesterday and chose to leave as they refused to leave it without the keys. called the manager of the restaurant today and told him he lost my business and the opportunity to have a G in front of his establishment. was assured it would NEVER happen again and he offered me a free dinner next trip.

So you give entire tip when you leave car..how about when you pick up car? Do you tip then too?

Since I usually have the keys on me, I typically don't bother chasing the valet down to tip again if I just have to walk up to my car, get in and drive straight ahead.

I have tipped again when a guy had to move a cone for me and I could tell he'd been keeping an eye on the car.

And I've tipped again when a guy was going to have to help me back out and maneuver out of a space tight with other expensive cars. Kind of a body language thing, if I walk to my car and the valet comes back over and gets himself ready to help me back out then I've handed the guy an extra $5 or $10 first.
