Default Great distance from authorized dealer

How often do you need to visit an authorized dealer with a Gallardo?

I'm just about to make a purchase here but often worry about maintenance. I'm smack in the middle of Canada, 26 hour drive away from the closest Canadian dealer and a mere 15 hours from the nearest American shop.

Is this doable? or am I seriously going to have to haul the car across the country to reset engine lights etc...

Anybody else in a similar situation?

Wow, I thought I was crazy for looking at lambos because I am 8 hrs away from a dealer. Are you looking at an LP? How much do you plan to drive?

Until Lamborghini Toronto comes back, I won't be visiting an authorized dealer at all, my closest dealer is Montreal. I take my car to a guy who really knows his cars, a very high end shop. Even when they do come back, I really don't see any need to take it to them either...

Question is, where do the SK guys take their cars? They are closest to you, and they have Lambos.

You need a close by shop if you are not able to DIY. It isn't reasonable to ship the car for services that end up costing 2-3 times more than the service itself. Ask around for recommendations

I live in Saskatchewan (an hour south of Regina) - thankfully, Weissach (Lambo Vancouver) comes out to Calgary at least once a year. My car is still under warranty, so I booked in with them this past spring, for annual maintenance. For me, the eight hour drive is more than worth it.

After I'm out of warranty, I will go to ZR Auto in Calgary, or if I am in need of something simpler, there are two places in Regina (independents, obviously), that would likely be able to do the work I require.

I think it would kind of depend on what you're buying - if you're in warranty, and want to have your work done at an authorized dealership, then I might hesitate. If you're buying an older car, I'm sure there are independents in Winnipeg that would be more than sufficient to fulfill your needs!

If you don't find travelling out to Calgary too daunting, then email Stuart at Weissach's service dept to get on their mailing list - they'll email you their dates for Calgary (and Edmonton - three days in each city, each spring) prior to coming out.

Good luck!!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about maintenace. It's basically an overpriced Audi anyways. The only thing you have to worry about is oil changes, as the car is dry sump. There should be some shop near you capable of this, and if not, read the procedure yourself and go over it with the tech thats doing the work.

I'm in northern Alberta, nowhere close to a Lambo shop, but I have found a shop with a tech with the lights on, and use him for the Lambo and the Hummer, if I don't feel up to it. In a lot of ways my Hummer is more exotic to mechanics than the G.

Thanks for the great answers guys,

I'm looking at a 2006 so there wouldn't be any warranty left on it. I'll check around here to see if there is any capable shops. I believe there is only 2-3 lambos in town here and I don't know the owners to ask.

I work at home so I really don't do much driving. I currently put around 7k per season in my Vette. Just to the gym and back, every once in a while out to the country to visit my in-laws.

Is there anything a authorized dealer can do that a independent shop cannot? Aside from warranty work?

Anything requiring a lambo computer, which is a lot of stuff! Unless they picked up a hot computer with ongoing periodic updates from Italy....They are around and in the hands of some independents that can justify the high costs.
