Default Gallardo Recall (2004-2006)

Per Jalopnik: Lamborghini Is Recalling The Gallardo Due To A Slight Chance Of Fiery Death

Quote:
The Lamborghini Gallardo is known for a few things. First off, it's freaking fast. Secondly, it looks like a fighter jet for the road. And third, catching on fire seems to be one of its hobbies.

As you probably noticed, the third one isn't all that positive. And now, Lambo is recalling the Gallardo since the fire thing could still sort of happen.
Lambo is recalling the cars because a leak can occur in the power steering pump. This then spills the fluid onto the very hot V10 engine. After that, it combusts, which, to the layperson, means FIERY DEATH.

That's an issue.

About 1,500 cars sold from 2004 to 2008 are being recalled. Lambo says that the leak was discovered in testing, and that no customers have reported a fire due to this exact leak.
Update: According to the NHTSA site, it is for 04-06 Gallardo Coupes and Spyders (If the mods don't mind, can you please change the thread title accordingly?)

I am looking at purchasing a 2004 Gallardo right now. That is a good find and thank you for the information.

Cool, so shooting flames out the tailpipe is now only one way to shoot flames from your Gaylardo. (yeah, CBS actually just pronounced it that way on the morning news.... sheesh).

Update: The actual NHTSA says it is for 04-06 cars

I'm seeing the story popping up on various other motoring websites as well. I'm assuming it's legitimate. It's not the first time we've heard about this problem with them, just the first time there's been a recall for it I think?

Ok, I found the NHTSA site for it:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls...intVersion=YES

Number to call according to them: 1-703-364-7042

Quote:
Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s):
LAMBORGHINI / GALLARDO 2004-2006

Manufacturer: AUTOMOBILI LAMBORGHINI Mfr's Report Date: SEP 03, 2012
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V430000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A

Component: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,491
Summary:
Lamborghini is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 Gallardo Coupe and Spyder vehicles. In certain driving conditions, the high pressure steering pipes near the the steering assistance hydraulic system pump might leak.
Consequence:
Leaking fluid, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Remedy:
Lamborghini will notify owners, and dealers will update the power steering system free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, September 10, 2012. Owners may contact Lamborghini at 1-703-364-7042.
Notes:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Has anybody called yet to see if this is legitimate and what the next steps are?

It's all over the national news here in Chi Town, so it is not a joke. They have been poking fun all day at Exotic car owners. That's no joke either.

I called the number listed in the recall and left a voice-mail. I also called a local Lamborghini dealership and when I gave them my VIN number they said they're no campaigns available... is it possible the system isn't updated?
