Default Front crankshaft seal dripping normal?

Front crankshaft seal dripping normal?

lambo dealer says it is normal and will not change it before the purchase

The salesman said if we get the lambo bumper to bumper factory extended warranty we can wait 60 days and bring it in and have the seal changed out. Why would they cover it after purchase if I purchase the warranty and not before the purchase of the car?

I always thought a seal should not leak and if it did it is bad

The questions is if the crankshaft seal leak is normal on all Gallardos and if it is normal when is the leak considered to much and could cause damage?

Is replacing the front crankshaft seal alot of work or is it a small job?

Is the lambo factory extended warranty worth it and does it truly cover everything except brakes, tires and clutch?

Hey Crunch,

No the leak is not normal when buying a car from the showroom but it does happen. I have been to hell and back because of the same leak. It starts of with drops and in time becomes a full blown leak. It takes about 2hours to replace. First off you drain the engine oil, then remove the pulley and belt, then you remove and replace the seal. The seal itself is a very sensitive part (cost about 24$ from any Audi/VW dealership). Applying to much force can bend it and cause it to fail.

If I were you I would insist on repairing it, I dont understand why they dont want to. IMO it seems like they want to ripp you off.

Thank you

Kind Regards,
MRajeh

No leak is normal. That seal is well known for leaking but MRajeh is correct, fix it now or bigger problem later. I wouldn't accept the car that way and neither should you. I guess that dealer doesn't realize you got friends in high places!

I am bit confused the dealer will certify car which makes me think it must be all right

Does lambo certify a lot of cars?

Doe lambo offer a lot of extended factory warranties on used cars?

The dealer is willing to make all repairs on the PPI with the exception of the crank seal that they say is not required

They will perform a full service with 4 new skins and certify the car for a factory warranty

Cause they are trying to stick the bill to someone else ("lambo factory") - very suspect.

Hey Crunch,

No Lamborghini does not certify a lot of cars. When I brought my car in for an extended warranty they refused because of my crankshaft seal leak. They said it must be fixed and wanted to charge me 10,000 CHF inorder to fix (I KNOW FREAKING RIDICULOUS). I then called GVAN and he came to the rescue. Although he fixed it the first time it started leaking 2 days later. I went through 2 seals before I got it to stop leaking and now its leaking again. So if I were you I would insist on having it fixed.

I just dont get why they wont replace it :S. IT REALLY ANNOYS ME WHEN DEALERSHIPS MESS AROUND LIKE THAT!

Thank you

Kind Regards,
MRajeh

Its a simple sales negotiation/position which they are perfectly able to take. At the same time, its not one that you have to accept.

walk from that dealer. they are trying to screw you.

they are saying buy the car, then go through the certification process. once you paid for the car or put down a deposit, they got you. you'll end up paying through the nose on the repairs through the certification process that requires everything to be like new including wear items like tires, brakes, all fluids, plugs.

they are misleading you into this path which will generate thousands more in sales. not ethical.

the only leak that is common (and easy to fix) is coolant from the center of the car. it's a clamp that needs to be retightened every year. no other leak is acceptable.

Thank you all

Note: I am new to these cars and it is not a Ford and finding a good car and a good dealer has been rough been at this for 3 months and have looked and driven a lot of cars

Djantlive

I think there was a misunderstanding the dealer is going to do everything as part of the negotiated price to certify the car up to including new tires etc..
The PPI came back with only 1 question they said the front crank seal was leaking the dealer says no it is not an issue and is normal

I think it is like GDAY says they are trying to stick the bill to someone else ("lambo factory") to increase profits on their side

The question is can the dealer certify a car if the seal was really bad and would that make any sense?

I am going to follow up with the shop that did the PPI to see what they feel
