Default Deciding between these 2 vehicles...

Hey Guys,

I'm a new member here, but a long time lurker.

I'm making the big jump from a Corvette to a Gallardo! I don't have all the money in the world to spend so I'm looking at 04-06's

Here's two I've short listed.

2004 Lamborghini Gallardo Tubi,Callisto rims,Bicolour int.,yellow Calipers ? SCARBOROUGH ? For Sale

2005 Lamborghini Gallardo ? VANCOUVER ? For Sale

Both have what I'd consider high mileage. Clutch was just replaced on the Red one and I'm unsure of the clutch life on the black one. However, they've suggested the entire vehicle has ust been checked out by lambo and everything is good to go.

I love the color of the Red one, not a huge fan of the Black on Black but the price and Tubi exhaust certainly makes it appealing.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
-Ingram

Before you decide which one, have you read the discussion thread(s) here on eGear vs. 6-speed for 04-05 models? If not, you should.

I'd suggest a thorough pre-purchase inspection (PPI) on whichever is of interest. The inspection should be by a third party - NOT the selling dealer who could have a conflict of interest. Color/options are personal so I won't comment, and going with aftermarket exhaust is also personal - lots of folks do it with no issue. I'm a purist and prefer stock but that's just me.

The miles don't scare me at all given the age. If these cars are maintained they hold up quite well (in general).

You'll want to get the maintenance history, and an egear snap to understand how much clutch is remaining.

The PPI and egear snap will cost you but are well worth it in the long run. They'll either confirm that it's a good car - or save you from buying a "problem". Either way it's an investment that will pay dividends when you find the right one.

Don't skip the PPI on a used car.

another note - the Callistos have a painted yellow "lip". If you have to do a tire change - find someone who will be exceptionally careful because it'll be very easy to scratch the lip.

General advice would be to try to find a color you love. Figure out which options are "must have" versus "would be nice to have". Decide what you are willing to compromise on. Personally - I don't want another black car if I can avoid it - I found it impossible to keep clean. If you're not wild about black - try to find what you love. There are lots of lambos for sale so if you're patient maybe you can find one that meets your wish list (at least the "must haves").

There is no official Lamborghini Toronto right now, so unless the first one drove to Montreal to have it inspected something is up.

Feel free to PM me if you want some advice or help if you end up choosing the black car since I live near it. Sometimes it helps to have a 3rd party with eyes on the car available.

Just looked more closely at the second one, that looks like it's being sold by the official Lamborghini Vancouver, but as Godzilla said, e-gear wasn't so great back then, whereas the black car is a 6 speed manual so weigh your options carefully and do some searching around here on pre 2006 e-gear cars

Edit: The first car is being sold by a shop that I know does sell exotics regularily, I went shopping there before I found mine but he didn't have a Spyder in stock with the options I wanted.

Just an FYI, the only differences in the eGear itself between an 04 and an 08 is one, the clutch, (the original had a laughable lifespan. Chances are that has been replaced by now). Two,the eGear lines were rubber, (newer ones were later upgraded braided steel). And lastly there have been many updates to the eGear programming through the model run.

So as long as the clutch has been done, and the program was updated at that time, the only difference would br the lines. Ask which lines the car has on it now. Take all the horror stories about the older Gallardos with an eGear with a grain of salt. The only way to truly get a better eGear is to go for an 09, even an 08 won't get that done for you.

On the other hand, in 2005 the car came standard with a nose lift, and in 2006 it came with ported heads and lower gearing. The latter being a worthy upgrade if quickness is high on your agenda.

And remember, cheaper isn't always cheaper, lol.

I agree with Carol, the manual is becoming rare and you don't have to worry about the eGear issues. Also the black is beautiful. Forget about the miles! 27000 miles is nothing.

As an answer to your question about which car, I'd pick the red one all day long, and I'm not even a fan of red personally. But that said, red is a very rare color on a Lambo. The interior looks nice and clean. And I even like the titanium Cassopias.

That black one looks hood rich. Like somebody with poor taste couldn't leave it alone. Don't like the yellow overload inside, that would get old, and the yellow on the wheels belongs on a civic. I can't put my finger on it, but the black one doesn't look clean to me........

Also, if the Lambo dealership just did the clutch in the red one, I would bet it has the eGear updates. It also has the front end lift, if that matters to you. I bought my car from the Vancouver guys, and they were top notch to deal with. I'd recommend them.

Thanks, didn't know about the lines, only the programming and ratio. Pretty sure all OEM clutches have crap lifespans lol, my 08 is now on our resident Hi Tech Kevlar and running great! I haven't driven an LP560 before but I strongly prefer my exhaust note (pre LP) to the new ones, but again that's just preference.

The nose lift is quite useful, however I've found that even on my crappy city roads the clearance without it is quite suprisingly good. I rarely need to use the lift, however it's a great option to have.

Agree with everybody that 27k miles is nothing, ESPECIALLY for an 04, you want them to be driven! My car has 29k miles on it now and there hasn't been a single issue so far other than a man-made mechanical messup which was fixed within 24 hours.

Anyway, to the OP I'd make sure you will have a grin on your face every time you see the car. If you aren't a fan of black on your first impression, simply wait and don't get it. You will be super pissed if you spend 100k on a car and after a month don't like it for whatever reason. Winter is coming, I know it's already snowing where you live, you can afford to wait for more options to come around if necessary.
