Don't feel bad. You are not alone. I spent about 3 hours and finally gave up and paid someone to do it.

Interesting thread.
OP says simple 10 minutes and last post says three hours and gave up.
Guess it's somewhere in between?

It is actually more like half an hour for me to remove everything I need to remove and install the battery and then infinite amount of time trying to put back the rubber water seal back.

Remove the weather stripping around the luggage compartment. It is not glued and pulls off very easy. 2. Remove the 4 allen screws on the bottom. 2. Pull out the compartment light and disconnect or run it back through the hole. 4. Pull out the luggage compartment. This took me only 5 minutes. The battery that can be used is a Interstate MTP 91 or any group size 91 battery. After you reinstall the new battery, just reverse the steps above. I finished this in less than 15 minutes. I was told by the dealership and another repair shop that this required over 2 hours of labor.
What year is your G, and do you have a CD changer?

with the cd changer, i would take longer. without it, it's a cinch even if you are doing it for the first time. i have taken mine out about 4-5 times. very easy.

the advice given about how to put the rubber weather stripping is dead on. as with every DIY job, keep the parts the way you removed them. good general practice that makes reassembly easier.

Veering slightly off-topic how does the CD changer come out?

You need a long screw driver or devise an extension to reach the screws that are hidden underneath the changer. Pictures are worth a thousand word...

Answer to the weatherstrip replacement, and I have done this a dozen times.

Go get some weatherstrip conditioner, aka weatherstrip silicone available in a brush-on bottle from any Gm dealer. Rub on inside of weatherstrip. Or use a silicone spray designed for moldings. Do NOT use WD40 or other lubes, as these will eat the weatherstrip.

It just then glides back into place.

Without it, it sticks on the metal and plastic, and is very difficult to put back on.

I knew there must be an easier way to do this. Thanks for the tips!
